We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Maye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what do you want your legacy to be?
When I think of what I will leave behind, I inherently think of the children in my life. I think of the things I wished those before me had left behind, paths they could have cleared and possibly fear they could have prevented.
I want to be that for those little people looking up at me.
I want to be someone who faced her fears in front of them.
I want to be someone who cleared a path off the main road.
I want to leave behind a plethora of knowledge but more importantly, grace.
I want the eyes looking up at me to remember, I did what I did AND wrote it down, so they’d get to enjoy the process of their journey a bit more than I did.
If my God-Children ever choose to go into business for themselves, I pray they learn from my mistakes and realize I was scared but I didn’t quit.
Put plainly, I want my legacy to be a path that they can continue clearing for those they too will reach back for.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Satin Bubbles is more than a business for me. I look at it as my baby; it is still an infant.
I don’t feel “set apart” in my profession. The soaping community is so vast. Its filled with all types of people willing to support you on your journey. Nevertheless, I’ve noticed I am a bit more transparent than the bigger brands. My clients are aware of the entire process from start to finish.
I am learning so much in and out of the soap room. There is nothing easy about what I do because my biggest challenge, my largest hurdle, is my workspace.
In the beginning, the largest hurdle was finding where to share my creations, locally.
Now that I’ve networked, my workspace is my biggest struggle. With time and dedication, we’ll get to move into a bigger place.
Business-wise, I have learned through trial and error, research, and resources provided by friends and local government. I am still learning! I am still making mistakes! THAT comes with the territory.
I want anyone who’s interested to know, Satin Bubbles started in a walk in closet, at this moment in time, it’s still in a walk in closet. Though my workspace is tiny, these walls hold years of memorable soap splatter, tears from failures, and screams of joy from many successes. I’ve wanted to throw in the towel, now I use that towel to dust myself off and keep going. Satin Bubbles, LLC is my dream coming true every single day.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my besties visit, the first thing we’ll do is eat brunch at Foxy Brown. Then we’ll relax on the Pier while catching up some more. After a long nap at the Hard Rock Hotel, we’ll shimmy on down to Aubi & Ramsa for some liquor infused ice cream to beat the heat while we drive to Restaurante Brasil for an authentic Brazilian Buffet. Once we’re nice and full, we’ll walk it off on the shoreline of Fort Lauderdale Beach and walk right up to Bamboo Beach & Tiki Bar for drinks, dancing, and salt water vibes. The perfect way to end the night. And that’s just the pregame. The next day, we’ll eat breakfast at Shooter’s, grab Rum Cake from Vicky’s Bakery, and take a quick boat ride to enjoy the rest of our day in the Bahamas! Once we’re back on the mainland, we’d stop to unwind at NYSW Jazz Lounge before wrapping up the weekend!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is the driving force behind me. She encourages me to be myself and reminds me to lead with grace.
My mother is the why behind everything I do. She raised two knuckleheads with the support of her mother and sacrificed so much to keep us fed and safe.
I dedicate every soap, scrub, candle, sage stick, bath&body oil to her. The entire Satin Bubbles brand is because of her.
I live for the days I catch her sneaking into the soap room to peek at what I’ve been up to. She is my whole world. I hope my dedication shows that.
