Meet Tia Evans | Sex Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me the most important factor behind my success, and the success of my brand is living in my authentic truth. Once I discovered the power of sitting in my own self, unapologetically, I realized I could have anything I set my mind out to have. That is the same power I wish to give to my patients through therapy. Giving someone permission to give themselves permission to be themselves is such a selfless act, but can be invaluable. My goal is to free everyone who sits on my couch in this manner.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
THE Change From Within Counseling Center PLLC is a premier therapeutic experience aimed to promote healthy relationships with oneself, and/or their significant others. Being part of a marginalized group my aim is to destigmatize sex, sexuality and gender in the Black, Brown and Disenfranchised Communities. My practice is ever evolving and it has taken some time to get where I am today. Although I have been in practice since 2016 I’ve seen the most growth in the past two years, due to me getting out of my own way and with the support of my collogues and loved ones. For me that was the hardest part, as by nature humans often get comfortable in the effort to avoid change, hence the origin behind the current name of my practice. Throughout this journey I have learned that you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable if you truly want to see change. I want the world to know that Black Sex Therapist are here, and we will hold a space for you. My journey is just beginning!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hickory NC is growing. Being a nerd at heart I would start my tour at the Hickory Science Center, then grabbing a bite to eat at FOURK restaurant, or Notions 828. Another must do is to visit Simply Unique for a paint and sip experience. Hickory also boast some beautiful parks perfect for grounding oneself in nature. If you love the water Lake Hickory is a must do for boating and various water sports. I would end my tour guide at the Hickory Community Theatre for a locally produced stage play.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
