We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrell Barnswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Terrell, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small, southern town called Ambrose, GA. I come from a religious background where family and love was very important. My family was very hardworking and we didn’t have much but we made what we had work. I’m definitely grateful for my upbringing because that helped me be the person I am today. I learned that in order to be successful, you have to ignite the fire under your own self. As I reflect back throughout the years and watched how hard my mom worked to provide for us, this taught me to work even harder and made me want to become successful so that I can sew back into her what she sewed into me. This is what impacted me to be where I am today and to have an successful business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a baker and a cook. I have been cooking since I learned how to use a stove. I have always loved to cook and watch people reactions when they take their first bite of my food. I started baking shortly after I learned how to cook. My first cake that I baked was a strawberry cake which is now my customer favorite called “The Strawberry Crunch cake.” I pride myself on being able to have the talents of being able to cook and bake. Most people are scared of baking because it’s a science to measuring and making sure things comes out the right way but you never can perfect your craft without trial and error. With the help of social media and close friends and family, I feel like they pushed me to be where I am today professionally. Every time they taste my food, they always say “omg you need to open up a restaurant” and that always resonated within me. I am now on a path to opening my own restaurant so that I can become a household name and plus I want people from all over the world to taste my food. I learned that having faith in God, hard work, and perseverance are the most important ingredients that you need to become successful and accomplish your dreams. What I want people to know about me is that I believe in providing interpersonal services and good food that will leave an everlasting mark.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I my bestfriend was coming into town, we would have a fun filled week of good food, drinks, and entertainment. I would take him to watch some of the best female impersonators at the Monday night drag show. Then we would go have some tacos and tequila at El Azteca Taqueria on Tuesday. We would definitely go to one of my favorite karaoke spots on Wednesday. We would wine down a bit on Thursday and do a little shopping at The Mall of Georgia. Friday we would go get pampered by getting mani’s and pedi’s, getting massages, and getting ready for a night on the town. Saturday we would take a bike ride at The Beltline and then cap the night off at a nice bar downtown. Sunday we would recap our week while eating brunch and endless mimosas at Garden Parc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has definitely been a leading light and has helped me with the success of my business. He has been by side since the birth of my business and has helped me build my brand. He has motivated me in ways that he couldn’t even imagine and I owe him credit because without him and God, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
