We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanisha, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The best decision that I have ever made has been to reset and rest. And I do not mean a physical rest, but a resting of the mind and spirit. Not only has resting encouraged me in my faith, it has allowed me to find balance and to be a more creative individual. Rest has allowed me to take better care of myself. As a result, those connected to me have been able to experience the overflow of it as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our personal experience has allowed us to be empathetic toward families who live what we ourselves have experienced. An educational background in biology pre-med, health education, and research had long prepared me for the road that my family and I would embark up0n.
There are so many things that I am proud of: my son and many others like him who live with the daily struggles of food allergies are seeing that they are being more supported by those who are being educated on how to keep them safe and include them everyday. It is empowering! We have been blessed to work along FARE as constituents and advocates, to support food allergy legislature, such as the FASTER Act which was recently passed to include sesame on food labels and increase funding for research.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would definitely have to indulge my best friend for brunch at Yo Mama’s restaurant in downtown Birmingham. They feature delicious brunch menu items that are gluten free. What’s a visit with your best friend if you are not experiencing Ross Bridges for their luxury pool and spa resort? Railroad Park would be perfect thereafter for throwing around a frisbee or riding a bike. After resting and relaxing, my bestie and I would get gussied up for dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse. before heading over to the Saferoom for music and cocktails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Chop Friendly is all due to my son Carrington, affectionately known as Chop. He was diagnosed with multiple food allergies at just a year old. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted him to live fully beyond restrictions. Without him, there would be no purpose in how I serve. Chop and I have been blessed tremendously with an amazing supportive family who work with us to promote food allergy education, awareness, inclusion, and advocacy to families, schools, daycares, and the community.
