We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamarie T and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamarie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My main goal for creating my band (Tamarie T. & Thee Elektra Kumpany) which is my business, was to bring a musical sound or I should say an overall experience to lift the vibrations in the world. To create something innovator that would inspire a person to aspire to be the highest version of their SELF

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always followed my own beat, from the way I dress head to toe, the style of music I create, and the way I think. I’ve never been one to fit in with the crowd. “Out of this world” –is a common remark from most people when describing me, yet I still find ways to stay spiritually connected.

At an early age when I was about four I had the best time dancing and singing to the music of the greats with my grandma. It was at that age that I discovered a love for the art of Music, especially Funk. This began the serious hours on top of hours a day of dissecting and recreating the craft. Studying a long list of the legends before my time who still remain primary inspirations in my life today; James Brown, Little Richard, Fela Kuti, Jimi Hendrix, Rick James, Prince, Michael Jackson, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, David Bowie, Junie Morrison, Bob Marley, The Bar Kays, Morris Day and The Time, Miles Davis, Parliament Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield and many more); I’m still learning and evolving into the powerful creator that I am today. We are all students of life

My professional live music experiences include performing with popular legendary Chicago musicians in venues like Kingston Mines, The Elbo Room, the House of Blues, Mothers, Chicago Blues Festival, Underground Wonder bar, Pilsen Festival, Mr. Browns Lounge, Cta Redline Station and Martyrs, just to name a few. I definitely made my own mark in the Chicago live music scene. I’ve been called one of the most electrifying, spiritual transcending, powerful performers of this time, and I usually like to add ” and other dimensions to come.”

Currently my focus has been on expanding my unique sound I call “Exotik Funk”. A mix of Funk, Rock, Reggae, Psychedelic, Afrobeat mashed into one with a super theatrical high energy show to express this sound, Accompanied by my band Thee Elektra Kumpany we bring a force designed to raise the vibrations in the atmosphere. At the end of it all it’s all just one big journey full of ups and downs, It’s about staying balanced plus grounded in your vision.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any place that has live music or just good vibes in general with music being the number one priority in the space. One of my favorite go to spots (Underground Wonderbar) sadly shut down in 2017 but if it was open that would definitely be the place I would take a guest visiting. Now I would most likely find out where one of my favorite House Music Dj’s are playing and head that way for a night of great dancing with some long island ice teas, one of my favorite drinks by the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shout out to my grandmother because, without her love and support I probably would have never discovered my gifts truly.
