We had the good fortune of connecting with Tajuana Seals and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tajuana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been a baker. I feel that this gift was passed on to me by both my Maternal and Paternal Grandmothers. I only baked for family until my youngest son wanted a Roblox party for his 8th birthday. I ordered Roblox sugar cookies from a personal baker in my hometown. She agreed to make my order however, days before the birthday party she notified me of a larger order she received and cancelled my order.
I decided in that moment that I would never find myself in that type of situation again! I decided and knew that I could do this and became so good at it that I began to get requests for my services.
What should our readers know about your business?
SimplySeals is my baby, not my business! I love zoning out on a special request order and pouring all that I have into that particular order of sugar cookies. I started out in the kitchen of my home. I was fortunate to purchase a built to order shed of which we transformed into a beautiful workspace! Unfortunately, Hurricane Helene came through Valdosta and in the wake of the storm the building was destroyed. However, as stated the building was destroyed but not my baby ~ SimplySeals. As devastating as the blow was, the shedded tears, the pain and the anguish, perseverance and determination are mightier! We got knocked down but we’re up again! Orders have not stopped, new buildings (yes plural) have been built and a contractor has been hired. We will not be undone, we will win!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The city of Valdosta is a rapidly growing metropolis. From the Winnersville rivalry of Valdosta City Schools and Lowndes County Schools to one of the largest universities in the United States, Valdosta State University, Valdosta is not lacking in things to do for all ages. It is home to a theme park, Wild Adventures which also has its own water park. There are churches of all denominations. Valdosta, is equipped with various parks and recreational activities. It has even been called the restaurant capital of the world. There is something for everyone in this fast growing city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am extremely blessed to have the most supportive family a business owner could ever wish for. I am a mother of four supportive young men who individually and collectively motivate and encourage me daily. However, the rock and matriarch in my life is non other than my husband of 26 years, Frantanzo Seals! He is my biggest fan! He gives tirelessly all that he has to help make my dreams come true! Knowing how important this venture is to me, he makes calls, hires contractors, electricians, plumbers and any other services needed to get things moving in the right direction. He builds me up when I’m feeling low and shouts louder than anyone when I succeed and reach my goals and accomplishments!
