Meet Tajonyx | Independent Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tajonyx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tajonyx, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
When it comes to my music, the principle I value most is to move people emotionally. Whether it’s an uptempo dance song, or a ballad, I want people to feel something. Music is such a healer, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a independent recording artist. I have been in the music game for 15 years. I sent my first demo to Arista Records in 2008. When I didn’t hear back from them, I realized that waiting for a label to give me the opportunity to do what I know I was born to do was no longer an option. I have made no real profit from my music as of yet. I do it because I love it. But hopefully this gig will turn into a profit soon! Getting to where I am today took a ton of resilience. I refused to be told “no”. When the door was slammed in my face, I found a window. When I wasn’t invited to the table, I made my own. Also I learned that dreams stay dreams until the moment you decide to invest in making them a reality. Most successful people don’t tell you how much money they had to spend on their dream before things really took off. A vision takes money. It’s just the harsh truth of it all. People won’t believe in you until you make them. Money can be a tool to get that accomplished. Spend the money folks. Bet on YOU!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The companion on Marietta Drive has the BEST food ever! Also Ponce City Market is always nice. The LGBTQ scene is very vibrant in Atlanta, so I would suggest going to a LGBTQ friendly restaurant like Henry’s. I also love that there are a lot of LGBTQ affirming Churches in the area. I attend New Covenant Church of Atlanta. Where the spirit of God is poured out upon All people. Not just the straight ones.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are alot of people and things that have made me feel supported and encouraged. However, a book called “The Defining Decade my author Meg Jay really made me realize that I hold the power to direct my life in the way that I want it to go, and that my youth is the time that I should take advantage of chasing my dreams in order to create the life I want for myself. Other than that, my best friend Ernest Seldon has been my rock for years. When I wanted to give up on myself, he would encourage and speak so much life over me. I owe him a ton of gratitude for helping me get this far.
