We had the good fortune of connecting with Superstar Symone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Superstar Symone, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
So my work life is extremely hectic and time consuming. I actually work on someone else’s job as well as pursuing my career as an artist which has turned into an entire job of itself. At first, it was easy to balance because I was used to working a regular job since at age 15 and just having a huge desire to pursue a music career. So I pursued my career in my brain for years before it started to come into fruition. I only did things here and there towards my artistry. I’ve been working since the year 2005 and pursing the music career since 2010. The pursuit of music did not get serious until around 2013. Then it picked up tremendously in the year 2017 until now. It is a very tough balance because the job I am currently on is very demanding and time consuming yet it funds my dream career totally. I guess I’ll say I think about the balance as one being necessary to the other. I would not be as successful financially in the pursuit of my dream without my current work life, therefore it balances itself out.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a singer. I share the art of song. What sets me apart from others is just me being who I am instead of someone else. I think what sets everyone apart is the fact that God created us all differently anyway, so I am set apart simply because I am created differently. I don’t believe I do so many more things differently than other artists (singers specifically) I just believe we all share a common goal which is create and share music and it’s just sang/sounds differently based on who we are.

I am most excited that I finally know how to release music without waiting around for the help of others. I am also proud to be a top performer on a website I signed up on a few years ago named Gigsalad. It’s a site where people book talent for their events

I got where I am by the grace of God. I can give several things that I personally did but I don’t believe those to be the main reason. I got where I am because I believe in my heart with faith that God has provided a way, certainly sense there were just times I did not know what to do or where my life was going.

It is not easy. Was is past tense and my life is still going on. I overcome challenges with prayer and sleep. It may be a challenge to me but nothing is too hard for God, so in turn I go to him for everything.

I have learned not to wait for people when surely you can do it yourself. So many years I wasted waiting for people to “show me how to do this/that” when I couldve either invested with a professional or sat down and read up on things. I have also learned to try to create as many positive relationships as possible

I want the world to know that I was always doing something to get to a point where I could help someone else with that other something I was doing! I want them to know at everything I attempted I did, as a superstar would!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ideally, since I live in Atlanta. I would take them to a few black-owned spots I am familiar with and want to continue to support. The Real milk and honey on Main St in college park for breakfast, New Orleans daquiri bar& grill. Perimeter mall is my fav in Atlanta. Depending on what’s going on in the city at the time and depending on the friend. I would go to a club but again that depends. I like to go to hookah lounges like Sivas or house of hookah. We could visit murals around the city.

It really all depends on events taking place in the city at the time to say for sure what places to go check out. It depends on the friend, my likes may differ from theirs and I may have to switch up to cater to them having a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
