Meet Stephen Shenboyejo | Filmmaker/Music Video Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Shenboyejo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephen, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking a step out of your comfort zone, is what risk is all about, that step can tell different good stories to your life, because taking a step means progress. Living a life without risk is like not living life at all. Life is all about taking risk.
Risk taking is very important in one’s career and life generally, life itself is a risk, without taking risk you can’t move forward in life, if you are afraid to take risk, you’ll not succeed, if you are afraid of failure, you’ll not succeed, in 2008, all I wanted to become was a musician, I was inspired by usher, trying to imitate him to sing like him instead of finding my own voice and make it unique, fast forward to 6 years after, in 2014 I fell in love with new adventure, switched from being a musician to a music video director, changed my career entirely and start from scratch risking it all, i understand it’s hard but it worth the risk, I mean today I have directed music videos for artists featuring 12x Grammy award nominee and 2x Grammy award winning artists, I just recently won Rome Music Video Awards 2022 and Europe Music Awards 2022, that’s the power of risking it all, if you believe in something go really hard for it, it might not work the first, second or third time but Keep working hard, one day; your dream will come true.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my intuition, the way I reason and how I see things is different from how other people reason and see things, what i’m most proud of is the growth in my career, I mean I looked back to my very first video and I could tell there’s a huge improvement, that it gets international recognitions, won awards in Europe, I mean one of my projects just won Rome Music Video Awards 2022 and Europe Music Awards 2022, it’s really an honor and it inspires me to want to do more, How I got to where i am today is hard work, discipline, consistency and the spirit of not giving up, it isn’t easy and how I overcome the challenges is the love I have in what I do, the love is the propeller that keeps me going, The lessons I have learned along the way, I have really learnt a lot of lessons but the one I’d really hold on to is humility, no matter who you are, what you are, where you are or found yourself just be humble, what I want the world to know that my best is yet to come and the sky is the starting point, we have a lot to achieve and we promise we’ll never disappoint

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
