We had the good fortune of connecting with Starlat Ridgeway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Starlat, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Los Angeles, California. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia when I graduated college in 2007 and Atlanta has been my home ever since. Growing up in LA was an adventure full of highs and lows. I never really understood how dangerous my environment was until I got older. I heard gun shots and helicopters searching for suspects daily. I’ve been to parties that ended in violence and I literally had to lay on the ground and cover my head hoping that I was going to make it home. My experience growing up in LA was not the sunny beaches, roller skates and surf boards that the media portrays. I’ve been in countless situations where I know it was only because of God’s grace that I made it out alive.

I was raised by a single mother who did her absolute best, but I always knew I wanted more from life. Since I was a little girl, I knew the world was bigger than California and I wanted to explore every inch of it. I truly believe my upbringing in LA made me the strong, determined and fearless woman that I am today. I knew that if I could make it in LA, I could make it anywhere!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a full time traveler, wife, and homeschool mom. My husband and I decided to withdraw our children from private school during the Covid-19 Pandemic and they have been full-time homeschoolers ever since. We are both entrepreneurs and before the pandemic we were frequent travelers. We’ve been to Paris, London, California, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, Las Vegas, California and many other places with our children right by our side.

During the pandemic, we were adamant about staying home and trying to be as safe as possible, but by February 2022 we had enough of being isolated and decided to visit Kenya for a month. Visiting Kenya was one of our most eye-opening and adventurous vacations. We traveled to various places throughout Kenya and by the end of our 30 days we knew we wanted to make Kenya our new home and travel to other African countries.

When we came back home in March, we sold our home and all of our possessions. In July of 2022, we said goodbye to our family and friends and booked a one-way flight to Nairobi to begin our life of full-time travel.

I strongly believe that the most meaningful learning occurs when you travel and I was always determined to pursue a career that would allow me to make money from anywhere and travel the world with my family full-time.

After several months of setting my intention and studying nonstop, I learned how to trade stock options and became a full-time day trader. Learning how to invest and trade stock options is not easy, but it is so worth it. It has allowed me the opportunity to control my time and have freedom. I get to spend time with my husband and children without having to trade time for money and we get to see everything this world has to offer at the same time.

Now we are traveling the world full-time with Kenya as our home base and sharing our story on social media and YouTube. We hope to inspire other families to manifest the life they want and explore the world together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I love living in Africa, there are certain things about Atlanta that I really miss. When I get the chance to visit my first stop will be WTF (Wonderful Tasting Food) Vegan Food Truck at Met Atlanta, Wholefoods on Ponce de Leon to grab a bottle of Fresh Juice, Ponce City Market, and Slutty Vegan for lunch. Last but certainly not least, a trip to Atlanta would not be complete without having a private dinner for family and friends catered by Chef Chloe with Vegan Eats by Chloe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The people who deserve a little credit and recognition in my story are my husband, my client turned friend Malik Haughton and my son’s previous drum teacher Corey Hutto.

My husband is my biggest supporter. He is always down for my crazy ideas and he has always been my biggest cheerleader. He makes me feel like I’m the smartest person in the world. As long as he is by my side, I know that I can accomplish anything.

I met Malik Haughton many years ago when I first became a real estate agent. Throughout the years he purchased several properties with me and since the first time I met him, his entrepreneurial spirit has been an inspiration. Malik is the first person I personally knew who invested in stocks and he was the first person to teach me about options trading. He is an inspiration in so many ways and is always available to answer my questions and encourage me to keep going.

Corey Hutto was my son’s drum teacher and was the second person I ever met who day traded stocks for a living. Corey introduced me to my first trading group. His commitment to learn the stock market also inspired me to stay committed and never give up, even on bad days.
