Meet Star Maxwell: Event Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Star Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Star, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am a “Grady baby”, born in Atlanta, GA. My family later migrated south to Clayton County. It is not the “place” that shapes a person-it’s more so the values instilled from an adolescent. I come from a large family-4 brothers, 2 sisters. We all grew up very close to each other. My Dad was the sole provider for our household. He was like a super hero to us because his work ethic was beyond impeccable, doing whatever it took to provide our wants and needs. Although my mom did not work a traditional “9-5” she did her thing raising our village and always had a hustler mentality to help make ends meet. My Dad owned a lawn care business and I was involved at an early age. It was hard for people to believe that my sisters and I could trim hedged, edge lawns and cut grass but we did it and were great at it. My parents built my work ethic early on. I started saving money at 10…opened my first bank account at 14…went off to college with over $4K saved…purchased my 1st house at 23…purchased my second house at 25 and I will have my residential property paid off at age 35. It’s never how you start but how you finish. Legacy is a big deal to me. Growing up to make my parents proud has always been my goal and it is something that I will continue to do for a lifetime!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I have always been keen to professionalism. My career began in Customer Service and lead to many years of management in corporate America before deciding to design events. Star-Studded focuses on customer satisfaction! Your time and my time are both valued. I have never had a client that was not beyond pleased with the turnout of their event. The key is to “listen”. Get as much information from the client upfront about their desires and begin execution from there.

Many people have no clue what things actually cost. Social media creates a society where everyone wants what they see others with. I try my best to make my clients aware of cost and create realistic expectations up front. Over time I have learned that I am not the planner for “everyone”. My skillset and expertise come with a price that some cannot afford and I am ok with that.

Events are like vacations. You cannot expect Greece ambiance on an Orlando budget. Plan for what you want. Most importantly, SAVE for what you want! I am ready and willing to design an unforgettable Star-Studded event for you and your guests whenever you are…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Here is an idea of the perfect weekend for me-filled with a combination of relaxation, shopping, thrills, good food, great drinks, perfect ambiance and an absolute good time! We would start our day at Milk and Honey for a tasty meal then head to the Omni Day Spa for some pampering! Now that we are well relaxed, we could do some retail therapy-every girl loves shopping. After we’d flattened our wallets a little, I’d have to take them to my favorite spot, Pappadeaux.- have a few Grande Hennessy cocktails and top it off with truffle cheesecake-I love to eat!!!

The next evening, we would hit up some downtown favorites starting at Skyview Atlanta to give them a full view of my beautiful city. Then we’d cap the night out at BQE for good food, drinks and music. Lastly, I’d want to end the weekend with a day at Six Flags. We’d enjoy the thrill of rollercoasters and water rides to cool us off in this Georgia scorcher heat!

Karla Jackson, Owner of KJackson Events & Design, has been absolutely instrumental in my growth journey with my business. She has shown me nothing but love since the moment we met. I greatly value her mentorship. In this industry not many people will pour into you with knowledge. So many people keep information close to the cuff as if one person/business can do every event for every person in their region. Truth of the matter is there is enough money out here for us all!

She has a heart of gold and is truly a God-send!
