We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Busby and Regan Jenkins, members of Balloon Boss, and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone and Regan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We really went out on a leap of faith. Our goal was to create an enterprise that has the potential to grow and create wealth for our family for our future generations. The whole idea behind starting our business was to create ownership. With that, we created ownership in our brand, ownership in our name, ownership in our product, ownership in our networking, ownership in our income, ownership of our time, and the list could go on and on. Creating ownership allowed us to find motivation in the work we do every day. We are in control of our success.

By starting our own business, we were able to establish additional support outside of the regular 9-5 job. We are our own employer, We make the rules and we choose who we want to work with and what work we feel we can produce efficiently and up to our professional standard.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We believe what sets us apart from others is our approach to taking risks. We find excitement in learning, performing new work and taking on harder tasks. Why? Because our growth has been founded in taking risks. We are not afraid to fail, and that is what we are proud to claim. We take conscious, calculated risks. Failure only teaches us how to succeed in the future. Our lessons learned from failure bring us excitement for our future work and collaborations.

We got here by pure grit and determination. Neither of our backgrounds would have lead us to establishing a balloon decorating business. Our backgrounds are legal and radiation control. So, our passion for achieving something more out of life brought us to where we are today, and it definitely was not easy and still is not easy. We do not ever foresee it getting easier for us, and we are ok with the challenge that is ahead of us. Overcoming challenges requires a strong support system, planning and preparation, and trusting in God. We have learned that approaching risks with a plan and strong dedication to preparation will allow us to minimize the risk and grow our reward. We have also learned that it is ok to be honest and admit “we are not ready to step into this field”, but that honesty leads us back to the decision table to put ourselves in a position to be ready at the next opportunity.

We want the world to know that our goal is to inspire positive growth and to be motivation for future generations to go and get what you want. Our brand is in our name; we are bosses. Our story is made up of many doors being closed on us. We pride ourselves in opening new doors when one closes. And of course our tagline says it all, “WEBLOWBETTER”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First we have to shoutout to God, for giving us the strength, courage, perseverance and positioning to take a leap of faith into entrepreneurship. Without Him, we are nothing.

There are so many people and businesses to include. We have received so much support, love and encouragement from various family, friends and businesses around the Chattanooga area. To avoid leaving anyone out, we would like to just shoutout everyone who has worked with us thus far. We would not be where we are without the support and love our community has poured into us.

As for credit and recognition in our creation story, we would have to say our dear friend, Olivia Fine, has to be mentioned in our story. Without her asking us to help her setup for an engagement party, we might not have started our business. So, thank you Olivia!
