We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherley Delia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The inception of my business idea stemmed from a traumatic experience that pushed me toward self-healing. Upon further exploration, I discovered a recurring generational trauma that needed to be put to an end, and I took it upon myself to be the one to break the cycle in my family.

As I peeled back the layer even more, I realized that the women in my family had experienced these same kinds of sexual trauma, particularly my late maternal grandmother, Germaine. I dedicated my healing and growth to releasing suffering and activating healing and resiliency in her honor through my business, Oceanic Glow.

I then discovered my passion for healing arts, neurolinguistic programming, and resiliency in this place. Through my exploration of candle-making, I uncovered my innate talent for using creativity and innovation to heal the mind, body, soul, and spirit.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Oceanic Glow, we are the ultimate luxury home wellness brand. We go above and beyond to offer our customers an unparalleled experience. Our unwavering dedication ensures customers feel exclusive and valued when they enter our store. We pride ourselves on delivering only the highest quality products and expert advice, setting us apart from the competition.

Despite several challenges in my business, I have persevered and maintained its operations. My determination and continuous effort have been crucial in ensuring its sustainability. In our initial year, there were claims that our candles were flammable, and some individuals threatened to take legal action against my company. At the time, I was unsure of how to proceed and felt fearful, as we had no assets to protect ourselves from a lawsuit – including myself.

Upon careful reflection and consultation with legal experts, I safeguarded myself and my business by acquiring liability insurance. It transpired that the person who had threatened legal action was dishonest; to my astonishment, this person was even a close acquaintance. This occurrence has taught me that not everyone we hold dear will support our progress, but it has also bolstered my confidence in dealing with challenging circumstances.

From my extensive experience, I have learned the indispensable value of legal protection, the importance of discerning those you trust, and the need for unwavering readiness to tackle any potential obstacles that may arise while running a successful business. I advocate for the availability of courses and workshops that can better equip individuals for the challenges of entrepreneurship. Maintaining a resilient, strong, and persevering spirit and the ability to recover to attain success quickly is crucial. Quitting has never been an option; these principles have been my constant guide throughout my career and business ventures.

History: Oceanic Glow is a powerful tribute to my grandmother Germaine, whose unbreakable strength and resilience continue to inspire me. Despite her challenges, including her untimely passing after giving birth to triplets in Haiti, her legacy of healing, empowerment, and love endures. Although I never had the opportunity to meet her, I feel her presence in my life daily. I named my business after her to honor her memory and continue the legacy of elegance and empowerment that she embodied. Germaine’s unwavering passion for bringing new life into the world despite adversity is remarkable. As her granddaughter, I am committed to making her proud and spreading her message of love and healing strength to all those around me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would plan a day for a visiting friend for 24 hours in NY; upon arrival, a chauffeur would be waiting for them at 9 am at JFK.

10 am:  Have a reservation at The Rockaway Hotel and Spa, and book a spa treatment for both of us.

1 pm: Have lunch in Long Beach, LI, at the Grotta Di Fuoco Restuarant

4 pm: Ride to the Short Mills Mall and shop for several hours.

6 pm: Attend a Jazz concert at the Lincoln Center

9 pm: Go to the Empire Roof Hotel and have dinner

Midnight: Go for dessert in downtown Manhattan, and go for a walk by the Pier.

2 am:  Head back to the Rockaway Hotel for sleep.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am genuinely grateful for the invaluable support and guidance my younger brother has provided me in building Oceanic Glow. His practical help throughout the process, although only sometimes visible to others, has been instrumental in making our venture successful. His unwavering support has been a constant source of strength for me, both spiritually and emotionally, as I navigate the challenges of the business world.
