We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherise Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherise, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It has taken a lot of brainstorming to get here. I enjoy crafting and I love surprising people. During the pandemic, I started making memorial shadow boxes with my daughter and giving them as gifts. It became too much for her and she often expressed wanting to make things for happier occasions. I racked my brain with hundreds of ideas before finally coming up with the concept of Krates and Things.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The idea behind Krates and Things is to celebrate new moms, new life and to remember those we have lost. But also, not forgetting to celebrate the highlights of life. I create gifts for all occasions. I am always excited when I can exceed the expectations of my customer and I am proud when I hear how well the gift was received. Making it this far has been a journey. It has not been easy balancing a full-time job, being a mom and still wanting to have that creative outlet for myself. I just keep pushing. Anything worth having is worth working hard for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My bestie and I are always busy and on the go. We also don’t get to see that much of each other anymore. If we were to finally have a chance to stop and spend an entire week together we would go the aquarium, the Wild Animal Safari, the World of Cocoa Cola. We’d also go the Trap Museum and then try to squeeze in the Botanical Garden. We would have brunch at The Hive and have lunch at Slutty Vegan and dinner one night at Old Lady Gang.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My children, family and friends have been my biggest supporters. And for that I owe them so much. From helping me complete projects, investing in equipment, wearing t-shirts I’ve made to placing orders and sharing my crafts on social media. I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my work. I will never be able to express to any of them just how much their love, support, and their faith in me means to me.
