We had the good fortune of connecting with Shenelle Simone & April B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shenelle Simone & April B, what role has risk played in your life or career?
It’s funny because risk taking is something that is new to us, and while it is the scariest thing you can think of, it has also become the reason why we are still able to fuel this dream. When we think about the Flew Here Grew Here podcast, it was a risk in itself. At the time, we were both doing our own things in media, and while we were leveling up on our own paths, we both really wanted to take this journey to the next level. Flew Here Grew Here is the risk that Shenelle was willing to take for herself, and in return, she took a risk by asking me to be her partner in it because we really didn’t even know each other. Without hesitation, I took a risk and said yes, and now our risk has turned into multiple endorsements from high celebrities, and has helped fuel our journey in so many different ways. Anytime you have a dream that you’re passionate about, risks will always play a part. But if you don’t take the risk, you risk losing out on the fulfillment of life before it ever comes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As our tagline says, we are your two favorite Brooklyn baddies. The tagline kinda embodies who we are to T. Being from Brooklyn helped give us a hustle and a fire and we use that every day in our line of work. Breaking into the media, music, entertainment industry, is it always a walk in the park. Besides, just dealing with the struggle of finding a way in you also had to deal with your own insecurities, and having to find the encouragement to keep going, even when the roadblocks appear. What we have learned on our journey is really what is our niche. Being media personalities, requires you to be able to connect to people in a way that makes them comfortable enough to tell their truth. Your job is to help build a story so beautiful that it draws an audience that helps spread more recognition and love to a celebrity. One of the things that we learned in our journey in this art form is that we’ve been able to create relationships based on the fact that people trust us with their stories. With our podcast, our radio show, and any other thing that has put us in the forefront to be able to interact and ask questions of people we’ve been able to receive genuine love, because we don’t act in messiness. People genuinely want to interact with us because they know that we’re going to have a good time, but we’re also going to get information out there that they’re proud of.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What we love about being in Atlanta is that it is such a melting pot of different cultures, activities, and people. So if we had a friend visiting us, the day would start like this. We would go to BQE for brunch because you have to taste that red velvet waffle, and those fried chicken wings. Next, we would probably do the tourist thing which is to explore downtown Atlanta. Our go-to would of course be the Georgia aquarium, because why not! After we work up an appetite, it will probably be time for dinner, and so one of our favorite restaurants is Longhorn steakhouse and trust us the food is delicious. After dinner, we would probably go somewhere for an early nightcap, for example, Chicago Pizza in Smyrna, GA. Then it would be time to really party, depending on the day we would do CRU Alpharetta on Thursday, Like Glue at Vision lounge on Friday, Culture Saturdays at WCAC, Rum Punch Brunch on Sunday or Fusion Sundays at Lemon Butter Restaurant. Our friend would feel very tired, but would’ve had a ball by the end of their trip

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate this accomplishment to a few people. Number one we always have to thank God for blessing us with the talent, the Will, the connections, and just the protection in our journey. We also want to dedicate this to our friends and family, because without their support, who knows where we would be. We want to dedicate this accomplishment to Jelisa Raquel and Media Girls Network for taking a chance on us and helping us grow in our media career. Lastly, we want to dedicate this to all the up-and-coming media personalities who are still trying to find their way or just trying to break barriers in this industry. Just keep going, and your reward will always come.
