We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawne Arceneaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawne, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I became a nurse 7 years ago because I absolutely love helping people.

After working in several different healthcare settings, I found that I wasn’t connecting with my patients in the deep and inspirational way I really wanted to. I decided to become a Board-Certified Nurse Coach and start my own coaching practice because this is the kind of transformational work that really lights me up. In my coaching practice, I get to dig deep with my clients and help them realize their own healing power. I get to hold space for them and help them from a holistic perspective. It’s incredibly fulfilling for me to be able to practice nursing in this innovative way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Board-Certified Nurse Coach, Holistic Life Coach, and Business Mentor. My practice is called AlignWell Collective. I help healthcare professionals create a life and practice that is aligned with their hearts and the truth of who they are. I believe that anyone in the healing space needs their own team of healers. The 1:1 space that I offer my clients is a safe and compassionate one, where I listen deeply, help them leverage their own intuition, and guide them in discovering their authentic voice. My approach to coaching is holistic and intuitive. I look at every area of my client’s lives and help them live in a way that is congruent with their core values. This holistic approach is something that sets me apart from other life, health, and business coaches.

My journey to starting my business and shifting how I practice nursing began with me being a burnt-out nurse in a broken healthcare system. I was not feeling aligned with my purpose as a nurse. I was working night shifts in a hospital for 12-14 hours each shift. I was completely exhausted from working in units that were understaffed, underpaid, and under-appreciated. It was affecting my physical and mental well-being in all sorts of ways. I was in my early twenties and the unhealthiest I had ever been. I was also experiencing secondary PTSD from working at the bedside. So when I decided to become a Nurse Coach and shift my practice, I was actively going through a huge phase of transformation within myself. It wasn’t easy, but I was also plugged into a community of support and love, which made the journey beautiful. This transformational experience was so profound for me that it helped me catapult my business and want to serve as many people as I could as powerfully I could.

The biggest lesson that I’ve learned along the way is that every single one of us is capable of creating the life we really want. We have so much power within ourselves, it’s just a matter of tapping into it. I’ve also learned that there is nothing more healing than discovering how to practice loving and kind words to yourself. I had spent so long criticizing myself, my choices, my achievements, etc. I didn’t realize how damaging my self-talk was to my sense of self and purpose. Once I learned how to speak to myself in a loving, compassionate way, I became happier, more fulfilled, and more present in each moment. These are all the things that I help my clients navigate. The one thing I would love the world to know about my story is that my purpose is to play my part in bringing joy and healing to this dark world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Seattle, Washington. I moved here with my husband at the end of 2019 from Louisiana, and I absolutely love the Pacific Northwest!

If my best friend was visiting this area, one of the first places I would take them is Golden Gardens Park. It’s a beautiful beach in Seattle that has a breath-taking view of the mountains. Another one of my favorite views that I would want to make sure to bring my best friend is Gas Works Park. This park gives you a wonderful 360 view of Seattle and Lake Union.

A couple of musts when you’re in Seattle are Pike Place Market and the Starbucks Roastery & Reserve. Seattle is also well-known for its rooftop bars and patio joints, so that would definitely be on the itinerary. I love this area because there is such a diverse community here. I see people from all walks of life, different countries and cultures, and different backgrounds, all come together to enjoy the many things this city has to offer – including delicious food, great sightseeing, luscious greenery, and SO many outdoor activities.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to Heather Lapides and Peter Giza, the founders of The Nurse Coach Collective. Before I found their program, I was so lost in my nursing career, and I was looking for something that would give me purpose and fulfillment in my profession without having to leave nursing altogether. Their program not only allowed me to become a Board-Certified Nurse Coach, but they have also empowered me to step into leadership in this movement to revolutionize healthcare – one powerful conversation at a time!

I would also love to give recognition to my wonderful husband, who has been so encouraging and supportive throughout my professional journey as a nurse entrepreneur.
