We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, how does your business help the community?
Shealo Glo helps the community by encouraging Black families, especially Black women, to prioritize basic self-care. We can revolutionize our lives and the lives of our loved ones by building healthy habits to maintain wellness. One simple step to creating a routine is to moisturize your skin daily with 100% Natural African Shea Butter, which Shealo Glo ethically sources from Ghana. The act of moisturizing your skin (the largest organ on the body) not only adds a layer of protection from harmful elements like pollution, dirt and dust, it’s also an emotional act of self-care as we enjoy the sensation of self-touch or touch from another. Women-owned businesses in both Ghana and Atlanta are working together to create this vision of individual, family, and community wellness while also creating work opportunities. Shealo Glo uplifts women who go above and beyond for those around them and may not always care for themselves with our monthly Shearo Award, chosen from nominations by our supporters. Winners receive a self-care product of their choice. We want our Shearos to improve their wellness as they continue to positively shape their families and communities.
Shealo Glo also sponsors Women Connected in Wisdom, a podcast grounded in the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. Each week the podcast discusses one dimension with a guest expert and offers resources and services so that our listeners have what they need to be well in every way.

What should our readers know about your business?
Getting where I am has not been easy, but it has definitely been worth it. After my Mom passed away, covid shut my job down, and Shealo Glo was officially launched during quarantine while I was unemployed. Through faith and community I have continued in an effort to encourage women and families to be intentional about their maintained self care!

What I’m most proud of my business for is the heightened level of care that it brings to women and their families around the country. All Shealo Glo products are organic, handmade, and aesthetician tested and approved which means they are safe for the entire family! There have been countless stories of improved skin, time pampering partners and family members, and moments that have brought families closer together. Seeing our vision in action everyday makes everything worth it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Things on the list would include 26 Thai Kitchen and Bar for some delicious food, Peidmont park to get some fresh air, and Revery: Virtual Reality Bar for an interesting virtual experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The list of people, organizations, and books that have helped me get where I am is endless! I would say a huge motivation has been the books Secrets of Six Figure Women by Barbara Stanny, and Still Point: A self-care playbook for caregivers to find ease, time to breath, and reclaim joy by Christine Gautreaux. These recent reads have helped prioritize self care and community which is vital in the entrepreneur journey.
