We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanice Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To make it simple I was tired of trying to find a job. If you know anything about the job market it’s not about what you know it’s who you know. I had two things working against me, I didn’t have a degree in Video Production and I didn’t intern at any major production companies while I was enrolled in college. I knew I wanted to film and be a part of production but based on how the job market selects its candidates the odds were not in my favor, so I had to create a company that would accept a creative with zero knowledge in the field and zero connections but had the passion and grit to make it happen. I gave myself an opportunity with hopes to provide that same opportunity to others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I continue to go above and beyond for my clients to ensure their videos and photos properly showcase the brands highest potential. As a young professional I understand the importance of providing services that compliments popular culture trends as well as the development of innovative visual production. I am most proud of my mindset development. And I am excited to see growth in my ability to make larger business partnerships. I see myself achieving that by creatively perfecting my craft in a more efficient way. I have a few projects that I am still taking my time to develop and make better. I enjoy the patience I have with myself to create a production that matches the potential I know I can reach. The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is the fact that I know who I am, and connecting with people who share the same mindset or even better. I know nothing worth having is easy. I overcame challenges by taking risks. I believe risks are important, and depending on who you are risks may vary. Risks have exposed me to knowledge. Had I not taken any risks I would not be where I am today. Taking risk involves feelings of uncertainty. Being uncertain can put you in jeopardy for losses, whether that’s with money, potential partnerships, relationships, or even your lifestyle. Whatever it is you put something on the line to gain something new. I cashed in my losses for lessons and I capitalized on knowledge. Identifying the pros and cons from any naive move made me smarter. Sometimes I have to really feel my lessons in order for me to know what not to do again. Undergoing discomfort allows your brain to think of new ways to bring happiness. I learned to pace myself, think, and trust my instincts. There were a lot of things I missed out on because I was moving too fast. I started to feel like I was running fast and standing in the same place. I needed to strategize and moving too fast was not going to help me. There were also times when I felt I should’ve made a move and I didn’t and missed out on making substantial connections. I grew tired of not trusting myself. It’s a tough lesson to realize a mindset that has carried you far in your career is also the reason why you haven’t progressed to where you want to be. In all I’m inspired by life and all that it has to offer.I always strived in creative activities whether in school or at home. It brings me peace and it makes me genuinely happy. When I get my creative skills going I get so drawn in and I can’t walk away. I enjoy that I love what I am pursuing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat! I enjoy different kinds of restaurants and being able to sit down and catch the vibes. A few restaurants I have enjoyed since the pandemic are Carmines, Capital Grille, Flemings, Benihanas. Zona de Cuba has great drinks. But you can never go wrong with some Olive Garden or this seafood restaurant The Boil. I love The Boil!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my family and my friends. They have all been my support system in times when I needed them the most and I am grateful for them. I thank them all for being a part of my journey.
