We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Zolecki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Most people when they start a business don’t realize that many of us are going to have to make up in time what we lack in skills in the beginning. I had to be ok with putting more time in than I would actually make in revenue. As I honed my skills and focused on growing my business daily, it actually started to flip. I was able to put in less time and make more money.

I believe everyone’s idea of balance is different. For me, the way I balance is simple. It’s all about being present at that specific moment. Whoever I am with at that time, I am 100 percent all theirs. I focus on them, fully listening and let them be heard. I do that with my co-workers, my peers, my spouse and my kids. It has served me well over the years.

What should our readers know about your business?
Today I run a $150 million dollar a year online business. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 20 years. My first 5 years in business, I barely turned a profit. I didn’t have a lot of skill early on, but I was teachable and so hungry. My goal wasn’t to make a ton of money, instead I just wanted to be somebody. I felt like my whole life I was that kid that was underestimated. The years of growing my business wasn’t easy at all. What kept me going was all the experiences that I was having along the way. It’s what made it fun for me. As I grew personally, I learned to understand that every situation I went thru was preparing me for the next phase in my business. It was never a negative experience for me, just an experience to help me get better as an entrepreneur.

The biggest lesson I learned along the way was the importance of having the courage to do things imperfectly. Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction. I was willing to make a mistake, look silly, fail terribly because I fell in love in with acting courageously at all times.

I learned to do things ABRAVE. I made that word up. It’s afraid and brave together. Feeling afraid and still being brave to do things anyways.

My story is about being a finisher. I am so proud to be a finisher in every area of my life. Most people are great at starting….and then it dwindles. Learn to be a finisher no matter how long it takes.. It feels so amazing. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shout to my amazing team that inspires me to consistently show up each day and live full out!
