We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah-Olivia “S.O” Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah-Olivia “S.O”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Simply put? Not letting up.
Entrepreneurship is a lot! Paired with having to still do life, stay fit, drink water, eat right, maintain relationships, travel, self care, etc? It’s not for the weak. I used to be very emotional about certain aspects of my business because, well its my business! I care about everything I do and everything I put out. I care about how its perceived and received. It’s like being an artist that is sensitive about their work! I was constantly overthinking every step I made. I would allow my emotions and how much I cared to consciously and unconsciously hinder me, which ultimately slowed down my momentum as a brand and my own tenacity business owner.
Once I truly adapted the concept and mentality of not letting my foot off the gas and not letting myself get stuck in my last loss or win, the game changed for me. I was able to shift from being passive about things to being proactive about everything concerning my brand. I now maneuver conflict quicker, take the personal out of business, and I don’t sit back and wait for opportunities to come find me. I go get them. If I don’t have a seat at that table, I’m going to make my own.
You move differently when you tell yourself “this HAS to work”. If there is no Plan B, then you WILL make Plan A work. When letting up is no longer an option, anything that comes up against you or your business whether it be time resources, connections, etc, you FIND A WAY.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My first career path was in the music business. That was always my dream and immediately after high school I moved to Atlanta and made it an immediate reality. I loved music, being in studio, touring, shows, shoots, and altogether just the business of music. When I felt led to step away from that a few short years after starting, I genuinely didn’t think I could feel passionate about any other profession. After a break up, I started my fitness journey solely for the purpose of building a revenge body. I dropped 50+ lbs and got not just in the best shape of my life, but I fell in love with the journey of working out, getting healthy, and the discipline that came along with it. Soon I wanted to share that by helping friends and family do the same. October 2021 I hesitantly stepped out and started my training business. The rest is history.
Now, exactly one year later, I am owner of BODY. & BUILT., a luxury ath-leisure clothing brand and personal training company. I also teach a group fitness class called BODIED, offer assisted stretch therapy sessions, and teach the importance of health and wellness in schools!
My brand BODY is BUILT on celebrating exactly where your body is now and loving it enough to make the necessary changes to become the best version of yourself. Whatever that may look like for you! What sets my brand apart is that I EXCLUSIVELY train in small groups of women. My team, affectionately known as the BODY Gworls, is absolutely unmatched. When you become a BODY Gworl, you don’t just get a trainer, you get an entire community. We are a group of like minded women, from all different walks of life, that are pursuing the same goals but the difference is that we do it together. We push ourselves and each other, encourage and hold one another accountable, and have so much fun doing it! No one gets left behind and nobody walks this fitness journey alone. it’s truly magically to have an enviornment where women genuinely want to see other women win. It is so special.
Building this brand, this community of women, and over all this movement of self love and self improvement is what I’m most proud of. Where I plan to take it is what I am most excited for. It has been far from easy, but ultimately it has grown and matured me in ways that nothing else could. The challenges and a losses I’ve taken have only make the wins sweeter.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food wise, there’s a Sarah the Trainer answer and Sarah the Foodie! On the trainer side, I love Superior Vegan, Chopt, and Cinnaholic. On the foodie side, Big Dave’s, Slim & Husky’s, J Alexanders, and Sublime Donuts are my go to’s. And if you want wings? Hibachi Stop and American Wings & Hibachi are the BEST in GA (don’t @ me). My favorite outdoor spots are Discovery Park at Riverline,The Battery at night, or the Westside Reservoir Park!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you one through one million goes to God. Giving Him my YES in the scary times, the times I don’t want to or don’t feel like it, and the times where I just can’t trace what He’s doing or why, has never, NOT ONCE, failed me. Scary as having faith in Him can be, what’s even more scary is thinking of how life would be without Him or His hand over me. I never plan to find out. I’ll follow His voice straight into the dark. Every. Time.
My sister has been the greatest example of betting on yourself and stepping out on faith. I wouldn’t be able to confidently take some of the steps I have if your footprint wasn’t already there, showing me the way. I love you. Thank you to my 6 for constant support, no matter what & KB for constantly pushing me, opening my mind and bringing out the beast in me.
Lastly, my training team, aka The BODY Gworls. Thank you all for your trust in me, your hard work, and continued support of the brand and my vision. We truly have become our village and our own vibe. I’m so grateful for each and everyone of you!
