We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Dodge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what do you attribute your success to?
Community – I believe small business thrives when they incorporate as much of their community in their day to day operations. For us that means sourcing local where we can : eggs, veggies, fruits, coffee, flours, etc.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Colette Bread & Bakeshop – We specialize in naturally fermented or sourdough fermented breads and artisan pastries. I like to say we are a rustic neighborhood centric bakery just working to make good nourishing nostalgic bread and pastry everyday!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s assume it’s a Saturay:

We’d start with a dog walk to Grant Park near my home.

Next, we’d go to Harbor coffee in Inman Park for some cappucinos and keep walking to the Freedom Farmer’s Market. We’d load on some awesome veg and eggs, and maybe a dog treat or 2 and a bouquet of flowers (the market has everything). Then we’d wander over to Colette and check in with our staff maybe have another litle coffee and a strawberry Galette on our patio.

After that, we’d go hit up a fun kids situaton, our favorite right now with our 1 year old is the High Museum.

On our way home, we’d stop at Madiera Park and have a little afternoon glass of wine.

We’d take a nap because as mentioned we have a 1 year old.

To end the day, we might head to East Lake and go have dinner and drinks at Poor Hendrix or if we were doing a family thing, we’d head to Midway in EAV where all the fun parents hang.

Finally if we had a babysitter, we might go watch a chill little ASO concert at the alliance or go see an art event at the Goat Farm. The arts in this city are so on fire right now!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Angus Brown – an amazing chef here in atlanta whose life ended too soon. He gave me a wonderful platform via Octopus Bar and 8arm to really become the baker I wanted to be. He gave me a lot of room to grow while also providing me with lots of feedback- some constructive, and some a little less so lol. But he allowed me realize my own vision and skills for baking and that freedom and comraderie was invaluable for me!
