Meet Sara Taylor | Tattoo Artist & Shop Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Tattooing in general can be a risky career choice, especially starting out. I started tattooing when I was 19, and it was a huge risk to fully commit to a job that was so unpredictable, income wise. It was the right move, though, and ultimately made me more comfortable making risky moves throughout my career and in opening my business because I know what the rewards can be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been tattooing for 8 years, and I am so proud of how far my art has come. I have always been an artist but seeing my own improvement has been really exciting, and makes me want to push myself further. It is always difficult, especially when you hit a rut as an artist, to improve and keep pushing but I love it so much it is always worth it. I love doing a wide range of styles when I tattoo, so I can push myself out of the box and see what I am capable of outside of my comfort zone. I think that is super important for any artist.
I have learned that it is ok to come back to a project, and that sometimes seeing it with fresh eyes is necessary to making the best piece you can.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Kennesaw especially, I love the revolving sushi factory. It is my favorite place to eat! A bit further out in Atlanta, though, Jeju spa is my favorite place. I tell everyone about it! The opposite direction towards Acworth, there’s a super cute place called Smith Gilbert Gardens that has the most wonderful energy. They have a butterfly house and a bonsai garden, and it is so lovely.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to the people that help me keep my business going. At Momo Tattoo Company, we have three other artists that I am incredibly grateful for. Anthony Stokes, Jared Hampton, and Sky Atkins. I am also grateful for my co-owner, Jon Taylor, for all of the help he has given me in opening and maintaining the shop. I also owe a big thank you to my sister, Cynthia, for getting me into the first shop out of my apprenticeship that truly kickstarted my career.
