We had the good fortune of connecting with Saquell Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saquell, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting KnoxCarterKandles was to basically empower, encourage and motivate women by sense of smell in all walks of life.

I figured if I could create a scent and place it in a candle and once they light it can take the pressure of the world away just for a moment. Sometimes the smallest things have the greatest impact.

The light of a wick in a candle can change your entire vibe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am actually a full time customer service agent. Customer Service is kind of a tough job if you don’t have the ability to control your emotions.

What lessons have I learned along the way in life I would say to listen to understand and not listen to respond.

That can be used personally and professionally.

What I would like the world to know about me and my brand is that KnoxCarterKandles was created so that women don’t feel alone when they may being going through a difficult time in life. You are not alone, there are other women that have went through these difficult times and they came out on top.

My favorite motto is, ” Woman if you are not dead, you are not DONE!.”

Keep believing in your faith, the clouds will move and the sun will shine brighter than before, keep pushing, damn it keep fighting, you are worth so much more than this pain that your are experiencing at the moment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Maybe the Tyler Perry Studio, you know this is a funny question.

Me and my bestfriend could stay inside and drink Stella Rose, watch movies and talk about our younger days…lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To be honest my partner, my future Mayo and my children (Mason &Maximus) deserve all the credit.

They push me to keep going when I feel like throwing in the towel on hard days.

My family has supported me very much, especially my mom, my sisters (C’Serria, Kendra and Melice) and my brothers ( Omar and Randolph). They are always giving me ideas, promoting me and just listen to me rant when somethings don’t go my way. I don’t ever think I’ll be able to thank them enough, besides giving them free candles. But as long as I make them proud I’m good.

I always tell them if I win, we all WIN in the midst of fussing at them.

I love my family, we all WE GOT!!
