We had the good fortune of connecting with Saicia Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saicia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It was natural for me to pursue a creative career for I am the third generation of creatives. My father and grandfather are both illustrators/painters. Both of my great grandmothers were professional seamstresses. I began illustrating clothing designs and sewing at an early age. I was self taught until I attended college. I earned two degrees, one in Fashion Design and the other in Graphic Design.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the original creator of many designs that went viral (velvet shorts, two -piece velvet lounge sets, and the mesh heart lingerie set). I was surprised and excited to see such an overwhelming response and demand for those designs.

Owning and operating your own business is not an easy task. There are many challenges daily, however, I welcome them for it helps me grow and make wiser decisions.

There are so many lessons that I have learned in these last five years. One of the first major lessons that I have learned is that your original designs can be replicated and sold by competitors. Other competitors take credit for your hard work. There is very little that can be done about it.

I would like people to know that Shopaholik is an online women’s apparel boutique located in Maryland. Founded by two sisters in 2012, the company started as a graphic t-shirt design boutique. The boutique transitioned into loungewear in February, 2016 and has now expanded to women’s everyday wear, lingerie and accessories. We offer custom designs as well as other trendy clothing brands. We help our customers embrace their bodies by making them feel absolutely beautiful and confident while wearing our clothing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to visit Downtown Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. There are numerous restaurants and tourist attractions, that would fill up our entire day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize the labor of love, commitment, and hard work of my team. They work diligently to help me win.
