We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadricka Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sadricka, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk. When someone sees or think of the word risk they immediately be afraid, and start thinking of the what ifs? However, during an internship my supervisor once told me something that I will never forget, ” You need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable”, and that is how you will grow. Taking risk has heighten my career before I really even knew what my career was. As the first college graduate of my family and moving away from family and friends was the first risk I took! That along played a big role in my life. I didn’t think of the what ifs? I knew it was something that I had to do so I went for it! I have on purposely put myself in uncomfortable situations that has help me grow, thrive, and learn more about myself. If you don’t take that risk of starting that new business or going back to college to earn your degree you will always live with that what if inside of you!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a lifestyle blogger/educator. As people meet me when I show them my IG or just mention to them I am a blogger they immediately can see the connection. However, I also mention to them I am an educator and they eyes widen because of how young I am. Being an educator and a lifestyle blogger goes hand in hand as I believe you are always in charge of a very important audience. I also believe that what sets me apart. I can relate to a wide range of people. Of course as an educator it is not always pretty or easy. As an elementary teacher it can be hard to juggle my educational career and my blogging career. I have to stick with a steady schedule, and just have to be honest with myself and realize that education is my professional career, but blogging is my passion. If you have a passion for something it does not matter how late or how tired you are you will get it done! This mindset is what keeps me motivated even when I get behind or if I feel like I have not done enough on my blogs that week. I still keep going no matter what! I want the world to know that I am just an ordinary person, that’s doing extraordinary things in and outside of the classroom. My blog is called JourneyenStyle because I want everyone to follow me on my journey to know that anyone can accomplish anything that they have a passion for!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I live in a tourist city, Savannah, Ga! So I would definitely take my best friend to the historic downtown river-street. I would have to take her to my favorite brunch spot on the river, “The Funky Brunch Cafe” and have her try my favorite dish, along with the bottomless mimosas of course! I would definitely have to take her the beach, “Tybee Island”, and stay to watch the sunset. We would probably take go on a ghost tour and go to my favorite bars afterwards. I would take her to the famous “Forsyth Park”, that has been in countless movies, and have a nice picnic. Of course do a little shopping, wine tasting, and get facials. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Overall I would say it was the people I met along my journey who has definitely help me get to where I am now. It was my work-study mentor when I was in college, my manager during my internship, my colleagues when I did not understand a particular project or work assignment, my roommates who help make home away from home feel less scary, random friends I met along the way that helped me explore new cities, my bible study conductor who helped me strengthen my relationship with God! Last by certainly not least my family for showing me that I can have more out of life, to go big or go home!
