We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabehah Aneesa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabehah, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I created my business by combining my years of experience as a woman and makeup artist with my deep love for biology and neuroscience. I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior and beauty, but it wasn’t until recently that I found a way to truly connect the two. While makeup artistry often emphasizes the surface-level aspects of beauty, I wanted to go deeper.
My approach focuses on blending the internal and external sides of beauty to help women find a balanced sense of self-acceptance. By addressing the mindset of clients who may lack confidence without makeup, I aim to create transformations that go beyond physical appearance. With this shift in how I run my business, my goal is to support women who struggle with self-identity and help them discover that true beauty starts from within—not the other way around.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is my “why.” Throughout my life, I’ve struggled with low self-esteem, often turning to external solutions to fill the gaps I felt inside. While I was always told I was beautiful on the outside, no one ever emphasized the importance of nurturing inner beauty. As I grow in my womanhood, I’ve come to understand that the internal work we do is what sustains and enhances our outer beauty.
One pivotal experience for me was battling severe acne that left behind scars I felt compelled to hide. During that time of feeling less than beautiful, I turned to makeup as a way to conceal what I didn’t like to see in the mirror. But in doing so, I discovered a deep love for the art of makeup. It became not just a way to cover flaws, but a creative outlet for self-expression. That passion led me to earn certifications in both makeup artistry and skincare consulting.
With my strong interest in neuroscience and psychology, I’ve often reflected on how our thoughts shape the way we perceive ourselves. At what point do these thoughts take hold and influence how we see our beauty? By blending the power of mindset with the ways we choose to present ourselves, I want to challenge the idea that makeup is merely a crutch. Instead, I aim to show the world that makeup can be a tool—a way to enhance, empower, and express who we truly are.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, the first stop would definitely be Sugarcoat Midtown for a nail appointment. Their service is always top-tier, with clean, precise work that never disappoints. Next, we’d head to Treat Your Feet for some much-needed massages to help us unwind—especially as two hard-working moms who rarely get time to pamper ourselves.
After some well-deserved self-care, we’d grab a bite to eat, and since we both love Indian food, Planet Bombay would be my go-to spot for some amazing butter chicken. If the weather is nice, we’d spend some time outdoors walking, catching up on life, and letting the kids play.
While we love having fun, what we truly cherish are those relaxed, simple moments that allow us to enjoy each other’s company and indulge in a little luxury outside of our everyday routines.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Allah (God). All glory belongs to Him for blessing me and continuously surrounding me with unconditional love. I’m deeply grateful for the people He’s placed in my life—those who support my goals, allow me the freedom to be my authentic self, and create space for me to stumble, learn, and grow.
