We had the good fortune of connecting with Rohini Rangari and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rohini, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art became a natural extension of my life’s journey. Though I studied engineering, life’s circumstances—frequent moves between the USA and India and family responsibilities—made it challenging to establish a career in that field. Amidst these transitions, I found art to be both a creative outlet and a source of stability.

I began with oil painting but shifted to acrylics and eventually watercolors, which have been my primary medium for the past decade. Watercolors fascinate me with their fluidity, unpredictability, and ability to transform simple strokes into captivating stories.

Art, for me, is deeply meditative—a space where time slows down, and worries fade. It has been a profound stress-buster, offering peace and fulfillment through the rhythm of brushstrokes and blending colors. Creating art allows me to reconnect with myself and experience the joy of creating something beautiful from a blank canvas.

Looking back, I believe my artistic inclination may be inherited from my grandfather, a talented artist whose meticulously hand-painted signboards looked as precise as printed text. His dedication and skill left an impression on me, though I only realized it later in life.

Pursuing art has been more than a hobby—it has become a journey of self-discovery, expression, and inner peace.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art has been a transformative journey for me, evolving through dedication and passion. I began with oil painting and later transitioned to acrylics, which came to me naturally. However, capturing facial expressions has always been a challenge, one I continue to work on.

When I ventured into watercolors, it felt like an uphill climb. I immersed myself in learning—exploring library books, blogs, YouTube tutorials, and practicing daily, one small piece at a time. Through consistent effort, I learned how water moves across the paper, carrying pigment to create the blends and effects I envision. The key is making the art reflect what’s in your mind, not letting the medium dictate the outcome.

I love painting birds, flowers, landscapes, seascapes, and houses, though I’m always open to exploring new subjects. Patience and practice have been essential in refining my skills. Painting with groups or attending workshops has also been invaluable. Seeing how others approach techniques has accelerated my learning process.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Balancing family responsibilities and frequent moves between the USA and India meant my artistic journey had many pauses and restarts. But art remained a constant—a meditative, stress-relieving outlet that helped me navigate life’s challenges.

I’m proud of the persistence and passion that kept me going. I owe much to my family’s unwavering support, my teachers, and the artistic legacy of my grandfather, whose precision and dedication continue to inspire me.

What sets my art apart is its blend of technical learning and emotional expression. It’s not just about creating something visually pleasing but about conveying stories, emotions, and memories through every brushstroke. My art is a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and creativity, and I hope it inspires others to embrace their passions, no matter where life takes them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I would craft a well-rounded itinerary blending iconic attractions, cultural experiences, and delicious food. We would explore must-see landmarks like the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Stone Mountain Park. For art lovers, we’d visit the High Museum of Art and various art exhibits across Georgia counties, which host shows throughout the year.

We’d also immerse ourselves in the city’s history by visiting the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and exploring vibrant neighborhoods like Little Five Points and the Atlanta BeltLine, known for their street art and unique shops.

Food would be a major highlight, with stops at famous Indian restaurants, local Southern-style diners, and international cuisine spots. Visits to farmers’ markets and artisan shops would add a local touch.

Throughout the trip, we’d meet people from diverse backgrounds, especially within the art community, learning from their stories and how they sustain creative businesses. This combination of culture, art, history, and culinary experiences would create an unforgettable visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family—especially my husband and children—who have always supported my artistic journey. Their encouragement and understanding allowed me to pursue art despite life’s many demands.

I also want to acknowledge my art mentors and teachers along the way, whose guidance helped refine my skills and broaden my creative perspective. Additionally, my friends and fellow artists have played a significant role by sharing inspiration, constructive feedback, and motivation.

Lastly, I want to honor the memory of my grandfather. Though he passed away when I was young, his artistic legacy left a lasting imprint on me. His dedication to his craft continues to inspire me to create with passion and precision.

This journey has been shaped by many, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has played a part in it.
