We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Hasan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robyn, what are you inspired by?
My experience. I spent 10 years inside of Georgia State Prison and through that process my idea of what I thought prison was was totally different from the real experience of it. I knew something had to change. Upon coming home, I experienced homelessness and coming home in March of 2020 and covid was starting no one was hiring. I got into this work by watching Marilynn Winn talk about closing and repurpusing a jail in Atlanta to provide resources to the community. This was something i knew if I had I wouldnt have ever went into prison. So I had to become a part of this movement and use my experience by making something bbad into something good
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization, Women on the Rise. I come from a Accounting background where I was a Payroll Manager before my incarceration. Being a black woman in Arkansas and Texas I was overlooked a lot for promotions and worked the hardiest, but upon moving to Atlanta I experienced that my color was not a hinderance to my succcess
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to hang out in parks. Especially parks with flowers. Piedmont is my favorite. It is my favorite because I love to see everyone out and enjoying being outside, many people are doing their own thing, having their animals or skating. It just feels so free
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Women on the Rise deserves all the glory of my success.
