We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Dodd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve been doing my family hair since 12 at first I ran from my own passion when I was living in Milwaukee, WI. I moved to GA in 2012 with 3 children, in between time and jobs I was doing hair at my home to make ends meet. It was when I had my 5th child in 2021, I realized I wanted to be more than just a mother and wanted to find myself as a woman and decided to take the hair business serious. I then signed up for school at Health and Style Institute when my daughter was just 3 months telling myself I’ll never work a 9 to 5 ever again. It was time to push harder for my children and build a legacy for us all. I want to show my children that it’s possible and never to give up. Just graduated December 2022, I can only go up from here

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a cosmetologist that provides the proper haircare. I love styling natural hair from silk press, braids, locs, and color. What sets me apart from others is I’m a genuine person that have a huge personality I live to get to know my clients and make sure they’re satisfied with my services. I got this far by not giving up on my journey through all the obstacles I had I made it through telling myself to find more solutions and less excuses. This journey was far from easy but it had taught me a lot and made me stronger. I learned to let my hands and styles speak for me and never feel like I’m better than anyone but try to learn from everyone. I’ve been mobile styling but plan to be in a suite after the holidays. I’m a dependable cosmetologist and welcome new clients with open arms.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places I would take my friends would be Martin Luther King’s house, the Georgia Aquarium, The Battery, downtown Atlanta Ferris Wheel and etc. I’m currently still learning new spots here in Atlanta and always open to finding somewhere new to visit… My favorite restaurants are Longhorn and the Cheesecake Factory.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a big shoutout to the staff at Health and Style especially Mrs. Tracy-Morgan, Mrs D, Ms Cherry, Ms, Russell, Ms Shanda and Ms. Linda. Most important the biggest shoutout goes to my husband and my children without them would’ve never been able to finish this journey. They were so understanding as I complete my goal and I’ll always have love for everyone that crossed my path during this time. And when I didn’t have a ride starting off at school a special classmate by the name of Takeisha High helped me to get there with no questions asked until I was able to get in my feet.. Last but not least my family members that live out of state from my cousin Virginia Williams, my 3 sisters and my mom, from encouraging words and more…
