We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Pardi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I think this is an amazing question to start off with because we tend to get so caught up on the idea of success. I grew up with the concept that success was measured by accomplishment or what bank balance one accumulated. Over time, especially during the 11-year journey with my wife as she approached the end of her life due to metastatic breast cancer, I realized success is much more than what we have. In my opinion, success is living in alignment with our uniqueness, not others’ expectations, opinions, or path they wish for us to follow.

As a life coach, I have worked with many people who feel they are just going through the motions in life. They feel complacent, despite having reached high positions or vast wealth. Often, I hear the phrase, “I work to have all these things, so in the end they actually have me”. When we unpack this further, it always comes down to the fact they have not been truly active in crafting their life. That they did not set out to live their life intentionally in harmony with who they knew themselves to be. Many times, this occurs because a path one chooses usually is to avoid discomfort. Yet, discomfort should never be a factor in decision making. Your values are what drive the best choices, not the avoidance of discomfort, which plays a key role in living life intentionally.

Let me go a little deeper here. Success is knowing that you moved in the face of fear to express who you are and live in alignment with your values. It is rising above complacency and moving from fitting in to standing out. We are all unique and not meant to live “one size fits all”. It is knowing, as you look back from those final moments of life, that you lived your life ALL IN. That you took off your armor and felt life to the fullest.

Think about armor for a second. Contemplate its weight. Try and visualize the limited perspective you have looking through the visor. If that is how you have lived life, did you live life successfully? Did you experience life or experience only a fraction of what it could have been because of a variety of fears and worries.

In other words, ultimate success to me means you let you light shine, because I believe our true legacy is not the things we leave to others, but the example we set to others that is lasting.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a bit of a creative, but it is more about creating life narrative. I am an ex-investment banker, born in NYC, who lived in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. After my wife passed away, I asked myself, “what would be an amazing story to come from this life change?”. That was to leave everything and reimagine my life. I became an adventurer in my own life, which is the perspective that sets me apart. I have walked the walk.

Part of the life reimagining was to move to Italy, which I did without speaking the language, nor knowing anyone. I did not have a job and started off teaching English for eight dollars an hour because I was committed to crafting a new story intentionally. I then became a life coach, three-time author, podcaster, keynote speaker, and personal growth retreat host.

My work all centers around one life philosophy which I call Possibility in Action™. At its core, it means that possibilities exist all around us but without action, they will remain in the land of wishing. It is finding your agency, accepting personal responsibility, and taking action to intentionally craft a life you want to look back on.

What I learned along the way is to not focus entirely on the result or objective but to focus on actions and experiences that I was living along the way to that result. I learned that curiosity is one of our greatest allies. I learned that accepting impermanence is the greatest liberator to living life fully. These are all cornerstone concepts of my personal philosophy and coaching creed Possibility in Action™

My brand is all about understanding the narrative has always been under your control. It might just be that you have been letting someone or something else influence that narrative. It is not what happens but how we intentionally respond to what happens. We need to interrupt habitual thinking. This, in turn, empowers you to take back the pen, turn the page, and start writing chapter two. That is what my personal growth retreats in Italy are all about. They are unlike any retreat I know of because we dive into what it means to live intentionally and use stunning day trips as metaphors for each lesson over the seven days we work together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s been quite some time since I have been to Atlanta, except running through the airport. That being said, there are a few things that I remember which, 0utside of the great vibe and really welcoming people my wife and I met. I could tell you much more about Italy now than I could about anyplace in the USA, but below are a few things that were wonderfully unforgettable.

1. Tram Hop on and Off ride
2. The Aquarium
3. Piedmont Park
4. I remember eating very well from food trucks which says a lot coming from a former New Yorker
5. The Botanical Garden is a must
6. The Five Points Area is so worth a visit
7. We did not, because I do not think it existed at that time, visit Atlanta Skyview but would be up for that.
8. I have tried indoor skydiving in other places and would be very into trying that again
9. Finally, I will never forget the crispy chicken, awesome BBQ, and some of the best craft beer I have ever had.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So much of who I have become is due to the enormous love I was shower with by my paternal grandmother and of course my late wife. Yet, someone who inspired me to set off on the path to become an Author after having become a Life Coach is Phyllis Melhado. She is a remarkable woman I am blessed to call my friend. She also co-authored my first book titled Chasing Life, which is the memoir for my wife.
