We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Vassell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started my Musical career as a way to express myself.

I love Music in general but it was a way to not go to the streets as a kid..

I played the drums and piano in my church growing up so I wanted to transfer that energy into a full career.

I never wanted to be in the spotlight as a rapper so I decided producing was a way to express my musical talent with the world without the worry of the negative energy of being a rapper.

I know that this is something I wanted to do this full time and to do it is a blessing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud that I’ve worked with some major artists like Glo Gang, 30deepgrimy in my career.

Being on Hot 97. With one of my friends Moe Fundz.

Hitting Flowtasic TV with my childhood Friends with their song “Hustle”

Getting signed to Worldwide international Records a few months ago

Working with Ciph Boogie. Just Everything it’s humbling

I got to this stage in my career through hard work and dedication. Was it easy? No. But music is my passion. This is the only thing I wanted to do. I didn’t start my career for the money I wanted to show the world my talent and love for music.

I started my career give out free beats just to build a name for myself and to build relationships that were pass the music. And I still do give out free beats sometimes

There were many lessons I’ve learned along this musical journey and STILL learning. One of those lessons are that patience and consistency is important. That you having to keep going no matter what happens in life.

I want the world to know that I’m just a young man from Brooklyn. Who was never in the streets that has a passion for music. Growing up I was never the popular one. Getting bullied as a kid
I was in special Education Classes. And I wear glasses.

And to see the love I get just for my music is a blessing. I appreciate everything and everyone who loves the music I make.

It’s a humbling experience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I mostly definitely take them to Times Square.

To see the statue of Liberty or Ellis Island.

I love art so To see the Brooklyn Museum or botanical gardens.

Or to different parks around the city just to sit and chill.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout-out my mother.

I love my mother man

Without her. I wouldn’t be the person I am.

She taught me everything I know about music and just life in general.

And seeing the sacrifices she made as a kid to make sure her children were set up for life in the right direction… it has impacted me in the most amazing way.

She supports my career 100%
Ever since I told her at 8 that I wanted to do piano lessons

Just growing up in a Jamaican household to a single parent really teaches you a lot about life you know.
