We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca E. Paul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca E., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I didn’t initially have a thought process when starting my business. I was unemployed at the time and needed supplemental income. However, prior to the start of my business, I had a deep conversation with a childhood friend about my own skin issues. We discussed remedies for hyperpigmentation and dark spots that I had been dealing with since I was a child. I learned about exfoliation and did further research on which natural ingredients could help to improve the skin overall and fade dark spots. After experimenting on my own skin I began to jar up the product and sold it to close family and friends. The feedback was so phenomenal that I decided to formally start a business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Body Scrubs by Rebeca (BSBR) has been helping people to exfoliate, hydrate and rejuvenate their skin for 10 years! BSBR prides itself on making natural skincare products with ingredients you can pronounce. You’ll never find an ingredient with complicated spelling but only with ingredients that can be found in nature. BSBR products are also made in small batches to ensure quality and freshness.

My brand stands apart from the rest due to our excellent customer service, transparency and dedication to pleasing my BSBR Beauties and Beaus. Today, people aren’t just buying into a good product anymore, people are purchasing products for the person behind the brand as well. Being personable and transparent is definitely what helps to set us a part! I want people to have great skin and know that the person that they are buying it from is trustworthy, transparent, kind, caring and truly has their best interest.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm, let’s see…so I’m rather “new” to the DMV area and I’m still learning all of the hot spots (I’m originally from Long Island and the Bronx, NY) however, if I had a friend coming to the area we’d definitely have to head over to Annapolis, MD for some Saturday lunch! We’d drink the best cocktails and appetizers by the water. On Sunday, we’d have to do brunch in D.C. at the W Hotel or maybe visit one of the DMV’s many wineries. One of D.C.’s many museums would also be on the list as there are plenty to see. My favorites are the African American Museum and National Portrait Gallery.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that deserve credit and recognition. I have several people to thank but I must acknowledge my God because without Him planting the seed in my mind and heart to start my business, there would be no BSBR.

I’d also like to recognize my beautiful and gifted daughter, Chloe. She was my motivation for starting the business. When I started I was unemployed and needed to supplement my income to provide for her. I must also credit my daughter’s father, Luis was also instrumental in the early stages of my business and I am forever grateful for the tips and lessons he provided.

I’d also like to credit the wonderful duo of women from Colliding Brands, Brittny Sweatt and Toni Fuqua. I met them at a networking event in January 2019. I was new to the area and they were so welcoming and resourceful. I spoke at their very first networking event in May 2019 and since then they have been a bridge to connect me with individuals that have assisted in leveling up my brand to what it is today.

I must certainly have to give credit to my mother, Angela and my sister and the rest of my family and friends who continue to back me and support me through purchases, sharing a post, telling a friend or listening when I need them. love you all.

Last but not least, I want to thank my handsome, motivating and encouraging significant other, whom I affectionately call “Pa.” I recognize him because he is the one who’s shoulder I can cry on, speaks things into existence for me, believes in me, listens to me complain when I’ve had a rough day, protects me, stands up for me and most of all, loves me. Shout out to my “Pa!” <3 – “Becks”
