We had the good fortune of connecting with Randell Beck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randell, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Story drives everything I do. I am a Simon Sinek devotee – always looking for “why”. Whether the story is a unique process, a unique product, or a unique story, my desire is to illuminate and enhance that story through photos + video. When I get the story right, it couple with the super high quality standards I set to ensure a compelling presentation that builds the customer relationship for my clients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been a visual learner and a storyteller. I discovered the strength of visual when I was a ski instructor and racer in college. My discovery was that it was far easier to model a proper demonstration than it was to hear or read something and synthesize it. At that time I was also a hobby photographer, and began to experiment with visual storytelling. After YouTube came out, I began making story videos that were getting thousands of views, even without formal training. AS I was transitioning my career post-covid, it just made sense to combine these traits into a business where I could “work from strength”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge art and music fan, and Atlanta is full of both. I would start with the Beltline and its installed artwork, take them to Buckhead Plaza to see Phil Proctor’s sculptures (the ones we did a documentary on…), and also make sure to include the High Museum, and plenty of music including Collective Soul. We would also include a large sample of smoked BBQ joints!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been fortunate to find mentors at every stage of my life, starting way back in Scouts, and continuing through College, the Navy, and business life. Mark Knutsen taught me by his own example how to focus on the things that work and still remain involved and connected to people. Michael Beck (no relation) made sure that my developing skills in video production were oriented in the right direction, and saved me months of development time. Eric Reinholdt is an architect and mentor-from-afar, giving me great examples of how to operate in a creative business.
