We had the good fortune of connecting with RaKya Burkes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RaKya, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
HUMBLE is dedicated to helping unstoppable minorities become leaders in education. HUMBLE is here to support you and your scholar(s) through the frustrations you have with education. We want your scholar(s) to fall in love with learning, again. HUMBLE is committed to building relationships that inspire and guide young minorities to reach their full potential, build confidence, and create habits that will promote success! Our mission is to build intentional relationships that will provide minorities with learning techniques, skills, and opportunities to expand their knowledge and increase their academic success and career readiness. Your scholar will receive 1-on-1 tutoring that will enhance academic performance and increase confidence! We are diligently working to eliminate the impact that the school-to-prison pipeline has on our minority youth.

What should our readers know about your business?
HUMBLE Tutoring is operated by two African-American college graduates who started college at just 16 years old! Deon and I decided to start our tutoring business during the pandemic because we realized that students were falling behind in school. As products of single parent homes, we did not have many positive influences growing up, so their only outlet was education. Deon and I have been able to break our own generational curses while helping our mentees and scholars do the same! HUMBLE aspires to support any scholar who: comes from a single parent home, is a first-generation student, or lacks academic confidence because of their upbringing. Our passion and professionalism is unmatched. We got to where we are today by talking to parents to address their pain points, consistently showing up on Instagram, and coming up with new ways to help children. The business journey has been smooth for the most part because of our prior experiences with children. Over time, we’ve learned that parents are not aware of what resources they have. Sometimes tutors are overlooked, but we are the best resource for parents to use since the virtual school year has negatively impacted many families. We want to world to know that HUMBLE is here to help! We offer services for Kindergarten to 10th grade students who need support in Language Arts/Writing and Math. We also have learning binders for PreK to 1st grade students that make learning fun and convenient. Visit our website for more information www.humbletutoring.com

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Brianna Cox, owner of Fluttered By Duchess (@flutteredbyduchess) is HUMBLE’s #1 supporter. She is a close friend that helps us brainstorm ideas, encourages and uplifts us when things get rough, and celebrates all of our wins! We appreciate Brianna for all of her support throughout our entrepreneurial journey.
