We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
When faced with the question of whether to keep going or give up, it’s important to take a step back and reflect on the situation. It’s good practice to reflect on the reasons why you started and what you have accomplished so far.
One way to reflect is to ask yourself some questions, such as: What are the reasons for considering giving up? Are these reasons based on objective facts or emotions? What have been the successes and challenges so far? What lessons have been learned from these experiences? What are the potential consequences of continuing or quitting?
My own persistence and tenacity are what allow me to continue to pursue a dream however it doesn’t mean that there were not gaps or long periods of time for me to accomplish a goal. It took me over 20 years to enter into venture capital and through that journey I was able to have other successes and dreams until I reached that goal. It’s also important to remember that giving up is not always a failure, and that sometimes it can be the best course of action.
Ultimately, the decision to keep going or give up should be based on a careful consideration of the situation, and should take into account both practical and emotional factors. Reflecting on your motivations, goals, and progress can help you make the best decision for yourself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have lead projects for top Fortune 500 companies such as Diageo, Home Depot, Wahlburgers, Louis Vuitton, HMS Host, Marriott, AMC Theaters, and Disney. One of the highlights of my career was in improving and leading supply chain strategies at Combs Wine & Spirits, a Sean “Diddy” Combs Company, where I spearheaded national accounts, global product expansion, and national military base marketing programs. And most importantly, I had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing female mentors who taught me a lot about confidence and resourcefulness.
I also learned a lot about being a great “number 2”, COO, right hand or co-founder. And I think this is what really sets me apart from others. I have a willingness and aptitude for striving towards a common goal whilst managing the operations of the business and keeping the team accountable. My curiosity around understanding people and how I can help them with their gifts is insatiable. Connecting the dots, closing the gaps and getting things done is what I specialize in. And I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to help so many people along the way. It’s funny because some of the team an portfolio have dubbed me the God Mother because of my passion to help them get connected to the right people and resources they need to be successful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Just Add Honey Tea Company – for quick iced rooibos tea along the beltline and for lunch head over to Grant Park and walk to Estrellita’s for amazing Filipino food.
