We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been a photography fiend! I caught the photo bug early in life and have been collecting moments with my camera since. This always felt very personal, but as I grew artistically and started experimenting capturing friends and family I realized the joy that comes from capturing others’ big moments was just as strong as my own! I realized I had a knack for visual and emotive storytelling and relished when others would tell me I captured their moments exactly how they pictured them. It took some soul searching to see if I could turn this once hobby into a lucrative business, but I have never looked back! What a joy it is to make a living capturing the joys of my clients’ everyday lives as well as their extra special moments!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is based on the small intimate moments in life. I am a firm believer that the most beautiful moments are the small ones that often are only noticed by those experiencing them. That is what I aim to capture for all of my clients. To freeze those small moments and preserve them forever. No stiff posing, no uncomfortable outfits, just my clients at their core. Each photo tells a story and each story is different. I am most proud when a client that started off saying they were “not photogenic” or “hates getting their picture taken” turns around at the end of the session and says they felt beautiful and at ease! I love watching the switch flip when someone who was “dragged along” for the photoshoot gets comfortable and into it. There is nothing better!

I want the world to know that there is no “right” way to look in a photo. There is not one correct outfit choice or angle or location. There is just you and your loved ones and the connection you share, and that is something that will always shine through when you work with me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok, so you’re in the A for a week- lets hang! I am a lover of hiking so we will definitely visit one of the trails in the perimeter- one of my favorites is Sope Creek, but I am also a sucker for Arabia Mountain! After our hike we will definitely want a beer and some grub, so let’s hit up Bold Monk Brewery for a pint and some truffle fries. Then we can hit the dog park at Piedmont with my 90 lb bloodhound, Sasha! For dinner I’ll treat you to a home cooked meal after we visit Your Dekalb Farmer’s Market to get all our supplies!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout has to go to my best friend, Lyndall! Without her support and encouragement I never would have started monetizing my hobby and would not have met all the wonderful people I have had the chance to photograph over the years through my business. She has always believed in my talent even when I did not, and has been my biggest hype woman. Not to mention, some of my first posed couples work was of her and her soon to be husband, Justin! She is my best friend turned “momager” and promotion agent and is always shouting me out, so this one is for her!
