Meet Princess London | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Princess London and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Princess, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve wanted to be an Interior Desginer since the age of 8, so it first started as a passion. When I finally started my business I saw that there was this need for accessibility to design without the pretentiousness and higher costs associated with it. I started with a consultation model and moved into offering full service for clients that prefer to be more hands off with the process. Consultations make the design process more available to those that can’t put a large budget into a project initally, but would like a full plan before they phase the design process. I love being able to give clients a full vision before they move forward with creating a home that feels like them. Even if that means it takes them a while to complete the plan.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Designer, I think what really sets me apart and gains my clients trust and repeat business is the way I listen to their needs, don’t judge what those needs are, and make sure that they know that my number one priority is for them to have nothing less than the absolute environment for them. Our mental and emotional capacities are tied to our environments in so many ways. My goal is for my clients to be in their home and know there’s no other space that makes them more happy, relaxed, and at peace.
The way I approach client relationships has really helped me to get to where I am with my business now. I was recently asked how I advertise, and I actually don’t. All of my business has been word of mouth referrals, and repeat clients. In this business, once you build good relationships, they will sustain you and help you to grow without a lot of effort.
The most difficult part of my journey has been learning how to operate my business, from an administrative standpoint, on my own. Since I took the less traditional route, I’ve had to learn so many things by just throwing myself into new challenges. No one was there to hold my hand and tell me what the next steps were. There are still so many things I’m learning as I scale up my offerings. What I’ve learned through that, is that on the other side of the fear to tackle new things, is newly gained confidence that nothing is too hard.
There is no greater personal challenge than becoming a business owner. The rainy days will come, the sleepless nights are inevitable, and the uncertainty can bring you stress. But, once I ssw the ways in which I could contribute to my community, and beyond, with my vision, I couldn’t see living my life any other way. The joy I get from helping my clients realize their vision for their homes is immeasurable. I take my tag as “The Happy Home Curator” very seriously. I strive everyday to make good on the trust that my clients have in me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course, as a dseigner, I’m always looking for beautfiful places to enjoy. The Botanical Gardens offers that full immersion in natural beauty, and during the holiday’s especially, it’s my favorite place to get some zen. Since I’ve lived both in and outside of the Perimeter, I’d recommend just about any restaurant in the downtown Roswell area. In the city, Bachanalia is a go to for a true culinary experience. They never disappoint!
It wouldn’t be a vacay without squeezing in some art, so a trip to the High Museum is a must. Then after we’d swing over to Thompson Atlanta for some rooftop drinks and views. If they’re like me and really enjoy architecture, a drive through the historic neighborhoods of Atlanta is fun. Then before they leave, a stroll through Peidmont Park with a lunch at Fellini’s on Ponce is a great way to end the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my journey to entrepenurship in design there are two people that have been key. First, my paternal aunt Brenda Treece. She was the person that exposed me to this industry from a young age as a designer herself. I loved visiting her office and going through her fabric samples, and then getting to peek at all of the custom furniture being made behind the scenes. Without her I don’t think I would have known this was an option for me.
The second person would be my husband, Dean. None of what I do would be possible without his full backing and support. Design work can be inconsistent. He anchors us financially, and that allows me to emerse myself in being fully creative and focus on growing my company. Design can be really demanding when you’re in the full swing of a project. He’s displayed so much patience and support in times when I’m having to be there for my clients needs while sacrificing some of our own.
