We had the good fortune of connecting with Plechette Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Plechette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to start a business since I was 11 years old and throughout the years i played with the idea but never pursued it. I had so many opportunities pass me by and I always said if an opportunity presents itself again I will never let it pass by me, and that day came and i seized the moment.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from other businesses is not only am I a Celebrity chef and Caterer but I’m also a cake artist and baker. I have unique talents that the average chef don’t possess I have the ability to provide multiple services for a variety of clients versus only having one service to offer. Of course the biggest challenge this year in 2020 was and still is the threat of Covid-19 so i restructured my business and I took the down time to redevelop my sauce and seasoning line that i started back in 2018 and that has been one of my best moves and proud moments in my business. I have learned a lot of lessons along my business journey and everyday is a learning lesson but the biggest take away that I’ve learned is to never give up and to keep striving for a better way. I always had a knack for cooking, at the young age of 11 my mom decided to leave us for a while to sort some things out in her life and my father assumed the role of mother and father and in that time my father made the meals he knew how to make to feed us daily. Although i was grateful my father provided meals to us daily it was the fact that it was almost the same meal everyday, bacon, eggs and grits. It was 8 children in the home we cried and complained about the same meal everyday my father knew we were tired of the same thing everyday so he tried new things to get us to eat the food so he would add food coloring to the grits to make it fun and festive and no matter what color he put in the grits they would always turn pink. So one day i begged my dad to cook I said “dad God said i can cook and if you let me I will cook us a great meal” as frantic as he was to trust me to do it he knew he had to because no one was eating his pink grits anymore so he took me to the store and I shopped and came home and made my ambitious meal, and they loved it! I was so happy I said when I grow up I’m going to have my own restaurant and its going to be named pink grits and in 2011 Pinkgritz was born.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is like a huge private island with a mind of its own, great food, tons of activities and the nightlife is awesome. All of My friends and family still resides in NY so when they visit our first stop would be a little tour of Atlanta’s history starting with the Coca-Cola factory, All Things MLK, the Aquarium and Auburn Ave. Then we would also do an awesome food tour Waffle House for lunch or Busy Bee, Amazing dinner at Krab Queenz, And hit a night out on the town maybe go to Escobar or Atlantis.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The day that changed my life was when I had one of the best conversations I have ever had in my life. I felt that day God sent me 2 angels Miss Denijah Brevard Owner and operator of her own design firm Paper Candy Designs By D and Mrs. Charisse Werts Owner and operator of one of the hottest boutiques in Atlanta Styletto Boutique. I also have a 3rd angel and that’s the Beautiful Mrs. London Santana I have had not just the honor of cooking for her and her beautiful family for the past 2 years but she also has been a great listening ear and friend. She also was the first celebrity to take a chance with me judgement free and that solidified my position from being a private chef and caterer and transitioning into a Celebrity Chef.
