We had the good fortune of connecting with Phil Clancy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phil, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
The habit that I most subscribe to is getting in the habit of meditating and centering yourself. Many times we get so caught up in our lives that we don’t know what day it is. When you meditate you quite your mind and you are able to make sure you are in the here and now. Thinking about the past or the future is asinine when you are in the present moment. Getting in the habit of meditating has helped me immensely.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making relationship/motivational videos in the early hours of 2016 and it has been a journey. It started with a simple “I want to make YouTube videos”. I then had to figure out how to shoot videos the right way and then edit them myself. I believe many people don’t start on their dreams because they feel they don’t have the means to do so. I did not start with much and all you really need most of the time in your phone and a stand. If you can start with that then you can start making YouTube videos. Doing this taught me that once you start on your journey, things begin to open up for you because you’ve already started the ball of attraction rolling. When you begin doing what you love, many different opportunities arise and before you know it you are getting invited to speak on other people’s panels and podcast. Fast forward to the pandemic; I started my second podcast during that time. In the wake of having to be in the house all the time but still having a lot to say, I started a podcast (again) simply because I wanted to. I’ve always like the podcast concept and most of all because on audio only podcast you don’t have to get dressed up to do so. Good FX Podcast was born from chaos so I am thankful for the time I was able to spend at home. I’ve always wanted to do these things and I got an opportunity to do so. My brand consist of honesty. I want people to know that like it or not I will be honest about how I feel about things and of course you won’t like every single thing I have to say about relationships but you will know that I mean what I say. I’m always looking for new ways to improve and I take the criticisms and advice in stride. Making sure I’m always being my most authentic self is important to me and I will continue to make sure I don’t veer off that path on the way to each of my goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in Atlanta there is a lot to do. Depending on the time of the year (let’s say it’s spring) will determine what there is to do. Piedmont park has a great jazz fest and we have many bars and lounges that will always leave you satisfied. My favorite thing to do is Karaoke! I also love to go to Karaoke spots and perform.  I love the experience and I think everyone should try it at least once.  It will definitely get you over your fears of public speaking. That is always a fun spot when you have a group of people and it can be a good ice breaker for a date too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Dad has been a big influence in my life and life goals because he understands when I need a push or when I just need to be listened to. There have been times where I have thought about way too much and he told me to jump and stop thinking about it so much. There have been times when I didn’t think I could achieve a certain goal and I remember his voice in my head saying “Achievement” ! When you have someone you know for a fact is in your corner things get a little easier because you know you aren’t alone.
