We had the good fortune of connecting with Phaidra Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phaidra, what do you want people to remember about you?
I am a helper, I am a teacher. I want to be remembered as a person who, not only imbues my students with confidence, but gives them tools to excel both in and out of the classroom. I want my legacy to be one of excellence. I want kids to stand taller, walk straighter, participate more in class, and think clearer. I want them to be better off because I was given the privilege of working with them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Greater mPower Tutoring, we understand what it is like to be on both sides of the teacher’s desk. We have aced classes and struggled in classes. We know what a growth mindset will do to enhance subject mastery. We want to equip and cheer on students who may feel discouraged with their current academic performance. We also want to help students get ahead. Either way, we are here for you!

We offer a variety of services. I have already talked a lot about tutoring, our other online services include classes for homeschoolers and Spanish classes for families, adults, and high schoolers. We offer Distance Learning Pods and Speech Therapy at our Loganville location (4325 Atlanta Hwy. #14, Loganville, Ga, 30052).
Our non-profit is launching a pilot program called “Level Up,” in January 2021 to support parents of distance learners in first through fifth grades. The kickoff raffle is December 20, 2020. There are some really cool prizes that we will be giving away. We teamed up with a local, black-owned bookstore to get books that represent the diversity of Gwinnett County into kids’ hands. If anyone is interested in sponsoring prizes they can reach out to me at LevelUp@GMPTutoring.com.
Finally, my dream is to have a community learning complex open and running within the next three years. I have my eye on the land that I want to acquire. It would be a place where people can connect with others and connect with nature. I want to create lifelong learners who are balanced, well-informed and healthy citizens. I want everyone to believe in their capacity to learn and help them attain subject mastery.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a homebody and my friends tend to be as well. As the VeggieTales song goes “We are the pirates who don’t do anything, we just stay home and lie around, and if you ask us to do anything, we’ll just tell you we don’t do anything!” (The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTale Movie, 2008) But if we DID happen to venture out here are my favorite spots: Tribble Mill Park and Harbins Park for being out in nature, Thai Taste in Loganville for the BEST Thai food I have EVER eaten, Jay’s Caribbean Cuisine in Lawrenceville for my Jamaican food fix. Hmmm, we’re still in quarantine so we’d probably check out the listing of online programs that the local libraries offer. Yeah, looks like I need to get out more, lol.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First of all, I must thank God for creating this journey for me. I have not “arrived” but I am learning and growing so much in the process. I want to thank my church-Central Lawrenceville Hispanic SDA Church. They have entrusted me with a variety of leadership positions which have helped me hone my leadership and organizational skills. I’m thankful for the support of my family. I have to shout out my two special friends, K & C. Your friendship and real-talk keeps me on-track. Finally, I dedicate this to my two little guys, R & V. This is for you! Mommy loves you!
