We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, what role has risk played in your life or career?
All of my progress and advancements have come after taking great risks. I have always been very certain about the level of achievements and success I want to experience and that certainty is what contributes to the confidence I have in myself to see things through. Granted, some risks have come with failure but, those failures or lessons/detours as I rather call them have lead me on the path I am supposed to be on in my life and career.

I grew up very athletic and playing organized sports influenced and molded my mindset. It’s the reason why I am not afraid of failing. It’s the reason why I am highly competitive with myself to see things through. Taking risks has allowed me to experience a glimpse of what it feels like to live out my passions. My goal is to experience what I continue to build on a much grander scale which is why I say glimpse.

Moving to NYC was the first big risk I took almost 10 years ago and it completely transformed my life. NYC is where I started my first business. I learned I was significantly underpaid and with experience in the fashion industry I started an ethical graphic apparel brand with a mission to inspire, motivate and empower women. That business then lead to philanthropy and community building and my network continues to upgrade as a result.

Once the pandemic hit I quietly pivoted to digital marketing after multiple colleagues reqeusted to “pick my brain” and it’s gone so well that I recently started an agency, the Delgado Creative Group.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Delgado Creative Group is a digital marketing and design company that levels up brands and service-based businesses through strategic digitalism and graphic/web design. I quietly started this agency in the midst of the pandemic while my graphic apparel line took a hit. While my eCommerce became silent I reached out to those in my network. I knew brand owners who repeatedly asked to pick my brain after seeing what I was doing with my brand. I knew brand owners who were constantly pleading for help. After various discussions to learn more about their goals I was direct with the ask. I presented various strategies to achieve their goals and they quickly became clients. I’m grateful to share that it’s only gone up ever since!

At the agency we primarily focus on women-owned brands but, we do take all clients depending on their type of business. Unlike others, we have to really believe in what the clients are doing. We have to believe in their goals as well. Stacking the bread is important, however, we have to love the process, and if we don’t believe in the client’s business, my team and I aren’t going to love our job nor really put forth the effort. We spend most of our days working and it’s so important that we truly enjoy the process.

We are a service-based agency and level up businesses to the point where they impact our communities with job opportunities and economic growth. It’s an incredible cycle to be a part of and in knowing that my agency contributes to that cycle I feel a responsibility to be mindful with the clients that we accept. With that comes the most challenging part of turning clients down. Greed instantly starts to peek its head and it’s a tough decision to make but, I have to stay true to myself.

If we’re not aligned in core values. If we’re not aligned on the big picture of that which comes after the money, chances are we won’t accept them. The money is going to come regardless but, again I am mindful of who we provide service to because with growth comes a certain level of influence, access, and platform and it’s important that all of those are used in the most positive way. There are also times where we are aligned but, we simply don’t work well together and I have to make the difficult decision to essentially break up with that client. It’s never easy but, it’s business and I have to do what is right for my agency.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being based in NYC makes it so easy as there’s so much to explore! We’d absolutely explore museum row and have a picnic in Central Park being that it’s right behind it. You can’t explore NYC without having pizza so, we’d go to one of my favorite places in Soho called Rubirosa. Their vodka pizza is beyond! Public Hotels to enjoy fresh air on a rooftop with stunning clear views of the city. For more iconic sites we’d visit Times Square, the World Trade area, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the edge at Hudson Yards. She wouldn’t be able to leave without having an NYC bagel so, we’d most definitely stop at Russ & Daughters for that.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much to the We Are Women Owned community. We Are Women Owned is dedicated to creating opportunities for women-owned businesses to gain visibility through the power of community and events. I’ve been part of this community since its inception. I have met some of my best friends through this community. I grew my brand and my own community with the support of WAWO and now, I work hand in hand with their founder and oversee their digital marketing strategies. We’ve gone full circle and there’s still so much more for us to achieve together. To say I am grateful is a huge understatement.
