We had the good fortune of connecting with Omar Quiroz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Omar, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to leave my own footprint, for my kids to follow when they got older. I really want to help improve the bully breed, one litter at a time.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Underground Bullies kennel, we put love into every dog we get, and every litter we produce. It was never about the money, but the love of bullies. It all started when we got our pit bull Bella, (house pet.) When we got her, you could see her ribs, she was very malnourished and poorly taken care of. My wife babied her and brought her back to her full potential. I didn’t know much at the time, so i thought she could have been our foundation female. While waiting for her DNA results to come back, I would work with her in the yard and would train her. It turned out that she was a mix of many different breeds along with mostly pit bull, so she couldn’t have been our foundation female for the bully world but that didn’t change the fact of how great she was and how much my family had grown to love her. Moving forward, we had gotten a bully puppy and he lasted 7 days before dieing of a parasite due to the breeders negligence. At the time we had no idea how important fecal testing on puppies was, or all the proper protocols that needed to be taken. We did a lot of research after that point and After that we thought we should just wait, and in due time things would work out. Shortly after, we got our XL Champion Show-dog Spooky and he has really been the reason we have jumped into the bully world. From learning about heat strokes, to how the shows work, genetic testing, it has really came from having him. At our kennel, when you buy one of our productions, you aren’t just getting a puppy and papers. You are gaining another source (friend, mentor, business partner, etc.) We love to see how our productions grow and we couldn’t be more proud at the ones that have made it all the way from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When we do have friends from out of town come, we like to show them Southern hospitality. One family fun place we like to visit is Fun Spot in Fayetteville. Their go-kart tracks are awesome for any age range. A favorite food spot is O’Charleys, you dont really see them anywhere else. The Ferris Wheel in Downtown at night is also a great view of the city and how it lights up.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Wife, Sarah Quiroz, is really the backbone to all of our success within our business. She organizes and facilitates everything that we do. She spends hours networking, helping train the dogs, she all around devotes most of her time to our kennel. I also would like to shoutout, 1888 kennels, out of Birmingham Alabama. Dejuan Hall has become a great mentor and friend within the bully community. The ABKC has also shown nothing but love to our kennel whenever we attend one of their shows.
