We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had a passion behind planning and managing events. I was approached by my friend Taylor, owner of The Brand Flourisher LLC, to plan her wedding in 2019. It was my first time planning and managing a wedding, and it was an experience I didn’t want to end. After that, I started interning with my mentor, Hester Parks, owner of Park Avenue Events, and gained a lot of experience with a variety of couples tying the knot. During my internship, I made the decision to form my own wedding and event planning company, so that I could have something of my own that could even be passed down to my future children.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are so many quality wedding and event planners in the metro Atlanta area that anyone could choose. I set myself a part by guaranteeing an unforgettable experience from beginning to end. I make it my duty to learn who my clients are personally and create moments that I know they will appreciate. If I don’t know an answer to a question, I use every resource available to me to answer it. I want my clients to feel like they get the best out of me every day and especially on their Big Day.
Though my business is fairly new, I put my best foot forward with every client I have and find different ways to share my brand with others. When I launched my business in February 2020, like anyone else, I had no clue that we would all find ourselves in a pandemic just a month later. Like many businesses, I paused operations and relied on social media for any glimpse of positivity and hope. I took that time to learn more about the industry, build relationships and prepare myself for future clients. As the world works toward a sense of normalcy, I’m proud of gaining the clients that I have and look forward to creating more magical moments for clients to come.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve been in Atlanta for 8 years now, and I discover a new place to visit every week. I’ve enjoyed that Atlanta has so many different areas to explore and endless activities for anyone’s interests, and you can’t forget all of the food options! If my best friend visited me in Atlanta, the first stop would be wings from Wings 101 in Buckhead. As a Memphis native, I believe that Memphis has the best wings, but Wings 101 has definitely stolen my heart. For dessert, we’d stop by Sublime Doughnuts for one of their famous cake doughnuts. I’m an old soul at heart, so for nighttime entertainment, we’d go to Kat’s Cafe for live music and drinks. The next day, we’d spend the day in Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Beltline to bike the trails and grab a popsicle along the trail. That night, we’d go to the Rooftop at Ponce City Market for some adult games and activities with the city skyline in the background. Some of my favorite restaurants we’d also visit would be Barcelona Wine Bar, The Optimist, Slim & Husky’s and Six Feet Under. For the rest of the week, we’d drive around and discover new places together.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentor, Hester Parks, has been instrumental in the formation of my business. Even though we are both wedding and event planners, she still mentors me and is always available to answer any questions I have.
I also want to thank The Bridal Society for the insightful classes that I participated in to earn my wedding planner certification. I learned so much from those classes, and I still refer to my notes and our Facebook group whenever I have questions or need advice for certain scenarios.
Lastly, I’d like to shoutout Taylor Alexander, owner of The Brand Flourisher LLC, who saw the vision and pushed me to create Liv In The Moment Events.
