We had the good fortune of connecting with Nautica Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nautica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue a creative career because creating has always been the mode of expression that aligned with my purpose, although I didn’t always know what exactly that entailed. As a youth, I struggled with expressing myself verbally, so I found comfort in exuding self-expression through writing and art. However, it wasn’t until I got older that I realized that my whole life I have been carrying a heavy burden of unhealed trauma, which was both personal and generational. So, through writing and art, I learned to express myself in ways that highlighted the importance of faith, mental health, holistic health, herbalism and self-expression. This in turn became my way of aiding in the process meant to heal my bloodline from the curses that were bound to myself and my people. I believe that it is imperative to understand that we all have different ways of communicating and expressing ourselves. I express myself through expressive arts, which for me includes poetry, videography, podcasting and creating herbal blends/remedies. As a result, I use these gifts that God has given me, to be a light (or an example) to others, while exalting the Most High for what he has done in my life. My goal is to foster a community of black people whom prioritize the overall health of their being (physical, mental & spiritual), over the futile elements of this world that society holds great emphasis towards like fame, recognition, status & materialism. I’ve learned that nothing tangible matters if one isn’t properly aligned mentally, physically and spiritually. I believe that all three aspects work in unison, in allowing us to overall be healthy, in its truest/purest form. In addition, I encourage everyone to speak up for themselves and prioritize their journey and healing process first. Everything we’ve experienced since birth plays a role in the way we are shaped today. Our behaviors are a reflection of what we’ve both held on to and let go of. Therefore, I hope that my creative work and business reflects the calling that I know God created me for, which I mentioned earlier. That is why my motto is “breaking curses through purpose”, because I am a firm believer in aligning myself with God, because then I am able to further fulfill my purpose in the way that he intended, while also healing and learning more about myself each day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I definitely wouldn’t be anywhere I am today without my reliance on God, my spiritual family, and learning to take accountability for my life. My work is largely inspired by the trials that I have been through which is an expression of how I overcame them. I’m hoping people see that my life is a manifestation of walking with God and prioritizing him over everything else. As of right now, my relationship with God has led me down the path of herbalism and holistic healing. I want people to know that entrepreneurship is about more than just a brand, recognition, and money. I want people to know that my business is centered around going back to my roots and building a community with people who share my core values. My goal is that when someone hears my story, they can gain the confidence to free themselves from any limiting beliefs, and achieve anything that they put their mind to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If anyone knows me they know I love the outdoors and to indulge in the pleasure and art of cooking. If I was with my best friend, I would take them to the Reedy Creek Nature hiking trails. It’s really peaceful and I enjoy using nature as an outlet for creativity.Since we would most likely stay a few nights; I would cook a foreign dish on the first night because I enjoy trying different cuisines. However, we both love latin inspired dishes, so I’d definitely take them to Compare Foods to get an idea of what to cook that night. The next night would be spent ordering the best hot n sour soup from the China Bowl near sugar creek off of plaza midwood. The last night would be spent trying different foods in Optimist Hall where we would be enjoying Gelato from Honeysuckle Gelato .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shoutout Tallia Scott! There aren’t enough words to describe how impactful she has been in my life. If it wasn’t for God using her to push me to share my gifts with others, then I wouldn’t have expanded my herbal knowledge into the business that I have today. She’s a prime example of a caring, nurturing, hardworking and supportive businesswoman. I also want to give a shoutout to Visionary Thoughts because he has been very influential in my spiritual journey with God along with supporting me in my business/entrepreneur endeavors. He is a trustworthy friend who gives me great advice, and has also introduced me to a variety of creative elements that I use in both my personal art and business promotion.
