We had the good fortune of connecting with Natashia Wilson-Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natashia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In short, my single most important thought was to protect my children. When I say protect them, I mean I want to give them a fighting chance at being able to freely live and not just “work to live”. I want to pass on to them the freedoms of being their own boss. Options in life are a beautiful thing. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak though. Not at all, but it does give you options. We own and operate several businesses because we want our children to have options in life and that comes with entrepreneurship. I Am instilling a solid work ethic in them and I’m passing on to them all the information that I have and continue to learn, so that they get started now. No one told me at 14 or 15 that I could start my own business, but I am telling my girls that. My next thought was that Entrepreneurship is creating a business while building it to generate a profit that you can live well on. It’s about establishing generational wealth on your own terms: no bosses, no restricting schedules, and no one holding you back from growing. That’s why I started our family business. I don’t want anyone or any job controlling how we eat, what we eat, when we vacation or how we choose to live. We determine all those things for ourselves. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a regular job, but if or when that job is over, when it’s taken from you, you must have ole faithful in the cut. Your own business that you can pass on to the next generation. I wouldn’t be able to pass my 9 to 5 on to my children.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
2. We’d visit Arnika Dawkins Photographic Fine Art Gallery showcases black art that speaks to your soul!
3. We’d have to stop by Fruition Hat Co. they have some of the most beautiful Hats I’ve ever seen; I brought my dad and husband to their MET location and they bought several hats because they couldn’t chose just one. They then turned around and booked us to cater for one of their special events! So, we gotta stop their and cop a head piece from them.
4. For my vegan family and friends I’m taking them to get the Slutty Vegan experience.
5. I must take them to The Busy Bee Cafe’ just for the history of that place and of course the soul food. My husband has been going there since he was a kid.
6. For a chill day, we going to Just Add Honey Tea Company to just talk and enjoy a little tea time.
7. We will stop by the Boogaloo Lounge for a drink and to sit in those hammock like swing seats they have Lol.
8. We absolutely must go to the St. James Live for some great live music and to likely catch my husband playing there with someone!
9. Parlor Den for a night out is always cool.
10. Nobody comes to visit me in Atlanta without going to the Martin Luther King Center.
11. We’re going to end their trip on Sunday morning at Ebeneezer Baptist Church!
