We had the good fortune of connecting with Na’imah Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Na’imah, how does your business help the community?
Passionate Prose is my baby, to be quite honest, and for many different reasons. Beyond that though, it’s a social commentary platform that I created where observing and dissecting moments in our media showcases teachable moments. The tagline, “raising the volume on matters that matter”, emphasizes muting things at face value and heightening self/worldly awareness. Tbh, a lot of this also began with the fact that I’ve never been a huge fan of the conventional. (Like, conventional anything.) So, my platform is widely driven by questioning convention & groupthink more often. I’m placing emphasis on how just starting a conversation can make a huge difference. This is a space that overrides the trope “it’s not that deep”, because sometimes it actually is! It’s a space that encourages readers and listeners to find comfort in shaking the table if you must or just want to. It’s an experience when you begin sharing your thoughts and finding out that you weren’t alone in how you felt. Even when faced with some opposition or questions, it’s still rewarding in a large way.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
While I wouldn’t say this project is my career (just yet), I’ll say that content creating is a job and a half. So, when I share any kind of content, whether written or verbally, I take the route of entertaining education. To avoid blending in or slipping through the cracks of commentary, I’ve set a bar for myself above presenting as a “gossip”/tea page. It’s more than that. This work is to stimulate the growing community (which I’m forever grateful for) and spin the outlook on surface level conversation. What’s the fun in being surface level?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oof, this if a task lol. There are just way too many gems in Atlanta, but..
for food, it’s worth it to check out Atlanta Breakfast Club, Ted’s Montana Grill, Naan Thai, Felinni’s, Mary Mac’s, Taco Mac, Max’s Coal Oven Pizza, Twisted Kitchen, & Big Dave’s (especially Big Dave’s omg..) For leisure, there are really all types of entertainment spots, it just depends on what you like to do. Centennial Park is a nice area for a chill stroll. The High is classic & so is Apache cafe (personal favorite). Live entertainment in Atlanta is so special. Stroll through Ponce City, visit Botanical Gardens, the Battery, shop vintage stores, or record stores. Whatever you’re looking for, there’s a good chance that it’s already in the city. 😎
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yeah, of course! First, I would have to thank my family, and my closest friends who have supported my goals and dreams since the first day. Before I even started my platform or writing prose at all, I was lucky enough to have had the biggest cheerleaders in them, and they never let me wallow in fear for too long. If I had to list everyone by name, I would be going on for days. Do know that my list is very full though. My gratitude is expansive. I also would like to thank the many bloggers/vloggers/content creators who have supported and inspired me through tips, tricks, and honest conversation. I’d like to thank all of the lady bosses in my life specifically, who are prime examples of what fearlessness looks and feels like. Basically, thank you all so much for pouring so much into me.
