We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Marie Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica Marie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Shortly after entering what I call, “The Real Job Life”, I knew that it wasn’t for me. I found it challenging to get into office culture and I craved freedom and flexibility. It also didn’t make sense to me that no matter how long, or how hard you worked, your salary was capped at a certain amount. I knew that I could be of highest and best service to the world and my own mental health by leaving the traditional work world.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve taken all that I’ve learned from my background in education, social work, and being a workshop facilitator and infused it into my coaching practice. I’ve added additional flavor by using my signature approach on myself first to improve my life by breaking the cycles of poverty, limiting beliefs and mental health challenges. All of this allows me to go beyond traditional coaching practices and approaches because I customize the experience for each of my clients and focus on strategy and accountability to help them design and live personal and professional lives that they love.
The hardest thing to overcome was my own mindset. This is why a lot of my work focuses on helping women shift the mindsets and beliefs that are holding them back and keeping them stuck. This helped me to go from living in unsafe environments and managing my money, relationships and mental health poorly, to completely transforming my finances, community and health.
I’ve learned that you truly are the average of the people you spend the most time with; You can manifest whatever you want and more with your words, actions and work; and investing in your personal and professional development and health yields a high return in many ways.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One thing that many people may not know about Detroit is that we have a breathtakingly beautiful waterfront. We could spend an entire sunny Saturday walking, biking, dining, enjoying live music or exploring the Riverwalk, The Dequindre Cut and Greenway, The Aretha Franklin Amphitheater, and Belle Isle Park.
A tour of the Motown Museum, or the ‘And Still We Rise’ exhibit as the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will leave you awed, inspired and ready to take meaningful action in the world.
By night we would hit up hidden gems like The Griot vinyl music lounge or Bakers Keyboard Lounge, the worlds oldest jazz club.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mastermind groups and accountability partners have helped me to grow exponentially. I want to shout out the sisters who I do mastermind and accountability work with regularly who continually push me and inspire me to grow. They include Racheal Allen, Rebecca Thompson, Nedra Tawwab and Chanel Hampton. I am also better because of the women who I support through coaching and mentoring, so shout out to Bianca Bee, Kiylise Lowe and the members of my Soul Tribe and Mindset Quest Group Coaching Programs.
