We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Boachie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misty, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I’ve realized the importance of ‘reading the room” and being flexible. My most successful pivot thus far was entirely unplanned. During the social justice protests of 2020, I recognized the need to add Periscope:Misty360 (P:M360) to my wellness offerings. Building a safe place for people to ask questions, express frustrations, and vent their anger and sadness has been incredibly rewarding for me and the many participants who have completed P:M360.

I am grateful that I heeded the call to improvise and that I listened to my intuition. It feels so right to facilitate open sharing and foster a forum for healing, especially now during these fraught times, when everything is being renegotiated–politics, gender, race, and so much else.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a hospital pharmacist for 20 years, my patients have inspired me to work harder on prevention and maintenance of health rather than on expensive pharmaceutical and surgical interventions. I am passionate about using my pharmaceutical and healthcare insights to support people in making comprehensive, long-term changes with fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle management.

It takes time. It takes energy, and I’m here for it!! As a healthcare industry, we fail millions of people everyday by talking at them and shaming them, without ever exploring root causes and roadblocks to wellness (addiction, trauma, financial challenges, mental illness, and all the things.) All too often, patients are told what to do, but no one ever fully explains “The How!”

I’m thrilled to be a health advocate and a disrupter in the wellness space. The status quo has to change, and I feel strongly that a more holistic approach is needed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take my best friend to see a performance at the Alliance Theater. How lucky are we to have such a thriving theater and performing arts scene here in Atlanta. We would have dinner at R. Thomas and hang out with the parrots there! I would take them to the High Museum of Art and also to REV Coffee in Smyrna (best dirty chai latte in town!)

We’d have to work out a ‘lil bit cause that’s my life. I would let my friend choose between a class at Element Yoga, Barre3 Kika Stretch Studios, or Stability Pilates and Physical Therapy. My absolute fav’s.

I’d love it if we could take a long, long hike in North Georgia and let Mother Nature drown out the city lights. We could meditate our cares away.

We can close out the week with some well-deserved pampering at Natural Body Ivy Walk. Ahhh-mazing!

Awesome! Let’s go now!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Kofi, has been my sounding board, my advocate, and Chief Everythang Officer (CEO) from the very beginning. He always backs me up in word and deed, working tirelessly to take care of home while also managing all the tech and financial details of Excavate Wellness. When I say this wouldn’t be possible without him, I’m not kidding! Thank you for your leadership and keeping it 100 at all times!
