Meet Mistie Daniels | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mistie Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mistie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I decided to open Salon M’lynn I sat down and really thought about what I wanted the client experience to be and what I wanted the staff experience to be. So, let’s start from a client experience. Most of our clients are wives, mothers, and/or working women. They come to the salon to relax, and enjoy the little time they have to themselves. So, when I opened my salon I wanted to create a welcoming environment of peace and relaxation. When clients walk into my salon I want them to feel like they’re walking into my home. I have chandeliers throughout my salon, positive affirmations on the walls, shampoo bowls that recline, and we keep the salon very clean and organized. Everyone speaks, we offer our clients drinks and snacks, and every Saturday we have donuts and mimosas. Around the holidays we have a client appreciation celebration to show our clients that we truly appreciate their support throughout the year. I’m a firm believer that little things make a big difference, and to me it’s all about the client experience! My thought process behind finding the right team for my business was very easy because I’m a stylist myself, so I understand what stylists want and need from an owner. First and foremost, I wanted a team that was able to all work together to help each other grow and be successful. I wanted to create a salon sisterhood, and a fun work environment for my stylist. If a stylist has a question about something they’re not afraid to go to their salon sister for answers. We’re a team and we all can win together. I host classes to show my stylist the business side of the beauty industry because I understand that my stylist won’t be with me forever. I want to see them grow and help get them to the next level of their career.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and founder of Salon M’lynn located in Austell, GA. We strive to go over and beyond to give our clients an amazing experience. We specialize in natural hair care, extensions, braids, cuts, and custom color. The one thing that I’m most proud of is how much my business has grown in such a short period of time. I opened my salon September 2018 and I’m currently in the process of expanding. I got to this point in my career by staying true to myself, my goals, and staying focus on the path God has for me. “There is no traffic in the lane created for you .” This journey hasn’t been easy, but everything is a learning lesson for me. Owning a business when the pandemic started was one of the biggest challenges I’ve had to face. As an owner, it is my job to make sure everyone on my team is ok. Most of my stylist are single mothers, so my concern was them and their families. If they couldn’t work, how would they feed their families? I’m very thankful and grateful that my business, and my team made it to the other side because a lot of businesses did not. I want the world to know that miracles happen everyday, and dreams do come true. You don’t have to have a million followers on Instagram to fulfill your purpose in life. Pray and ask God for guidance. I want people to hear my story and not give up on their dreams. I’m no big celebrity, and I don’t have a million followers on Instagram, but I wake up everyday with gratitude in my heart because I know I’m walking in my divine purpose here on earth.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love Chateau Elan. If you need a weekend to just relax and unwind Chateau Elan is my go to. Some other nice spots in Atlanta are, BQE, Mics Karaoke, Pasha, Copper Cove, and Visions.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, DeeMike Daniels. He pushes me to go after my dreams. He see’s things in me that I don’t see in myself. When I’m up late trying to coming up with new ideas for my business he is right there with me. I’m so grateful to have a supportive husband that understands me and my business.
