We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriam, why did you pursue a creative career?
One of the main reasons why I chose to follow my path on being a Artist for music, was because it was something that made me genuinely happy. I’ve always been around music since I was little, and watched my icons like Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Selena, and so much more create music that made me feel good, and that was timeless, and that’s what drove me to make the music I wanted to create. I simply didn’t hear the type of music I like in the world anymore, so I wanted to fill the void with my own music.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I love about the music I create, is that it sets me apart from the rest. I create authentic R&B/Hip-Hop music that’s a mixture of the 90s, 2000s, to nowadays styles. It’s a blessing because whenever someone hears my music, they always say “Finally! Someone who is creating real R&B again!”, so for me that’s a compliment because I know nowadays we have the R&B that we have but even that feels like it’s condensed, and more mixed with POP if anything. I wanted to stand out, and honestly be compared to the greatest of all time to make music. So that’s how my sound became what it is.
The challenges I’ve come across have really been putting my time and effort as well as energy into the things I need to focus on. There were a lot of times that I’ve gotten fake scammers reach out to me claiming they work with big names, just to get a dime out of me. Unfortunately, in the world we live in now this happens A LOT, especially on the internet, so I’ve had to train myself to do research on who is the real deal, and who is not. I also went through so many people, including family members not believing in me. Some would say: “You can chase your dreams, but you still have to find something that’s stable”, and I just never believed in that, because why waste my time doing something like that, when I can work towards something that I love? So I decided to defy all odds, and surround myself in the scene of music and pursue what actually makes me happy.
If I could tell the world something about my story, and who I am, it would definitely have to be to stay true to yourself. So many people want to be in your ear and tell you about your OWN art, when in reality you should listen to your own heart, your own soul. Even with modeling, I was told I’d never be a runway model, because I’m too short. Now, I’ve been in some fashion shows, and was able to put myself on a pedestal to realize that anything and everything was possible. You should never compare your journey to others, you make your own footprints by walking on your own path.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m originally from the cold and rainy state of Seattle Washington, so when I moved to the sunny Los Angeles? I couldn’t be ANYMORE happy. There’s always so many things to do around here, especially in the music world that I’m in.
One of the things I like to do for a bite to eat, and especially be around Anime Culture because I’m a huge anime fan, is to go to Downtown Los Angeles and visit Little Tokyo. They have so much amazing and authentic Japanese stores, and food, and of course anime galore!
One of the places I really enjoy to eat there is a Sushi Bar called Kura! They have a revolving sushi bar, where you can pick up any sushi you like, and you can even order digitally anything on their screen from Ramen, to drinks! It’s so good there, and there are even games on the screen, that you can win prizes from!
Like I said with Los Angeles, there are so many things to do especially with the field that I’m in with music. You can always look on Eventbrite to find things to do, and as for me there is a lot of open mics in the area! One place I always sing at is a platform called “Providing Platforms LA” and they host events for artists, and poets, and it’s always an amazing time to vibe, connect, and network with others. I’ve made so many friends and colleagues at their events, I’ve been so grateful to perform for them multiple times.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to first and foremost thank my Mother, for believing in my voice ever since I was little, and my Uncle for noticing my talent and encouraging me to share it with the world. I would also like to thank my friends all over the world, on the internet for listening to my music, and for giving me the strength to continue on.
